Yesterday at work a woman my age (but better 'preserved'😉 was rude to me.
This happens often, of course, I'm in retail management.

What struck me was that I unconsciously got into fighter's stance; planted feet, tight core, squared shoulders...

Does this mean that I'm one shmuck away from actually punching someone??!!! Perhaps a perfectly executed roundhouse kick??

Hmmmm...I'll let you know.

Why not lol

She felt privileged because she looks good

Well she definitely set of your "Well howdy this is some sort of danger I might need to defend against - let's get ready for that shall we?".

Of course I'm sure she had zero clue what she was seeing. Those folks never do.

Someone needs to write a handbook of responses you can get away with in Retail. They really do.

Please. Go to a happy place in your head. When I did sales, I had customers who deserved a swat in the face with a spiked club. I was stuck between my customers and the environmental testing work that screwed up everything.
If you do a rope-a-dope, they’ll exhaust themselves and calm down. You’d be the one in jail if you touched or kicked her and flattened her nose. Unfortunately, there are more schmucks behind her. (From my perspective, you look fabulous. How bad was her facelift?)

@AmiSue Like Trump's x-wives?

Probably.

I hit someone at work once when I was younger. I was as surprised as she was

@AmiSue He/they invaded your personal space. He had no right to touch your hair.

Even if you might never take the swing, assuming the stance is a pretty awesome response!

Absolutely everyone who has been in retail for more than six months is one shmuck away from punching someone! I'm not sure why it is that so many otherwise normal people think it's perfectly alright to be rude to retail staff, but thank the gods of retail there are some managers such as you who recognise this and don't expect staff to smile sweetly and put up with it when a rude customer treats them like dirt.

The price is too high.

I doubt that you would ever snap just because your body naturally gets into defensive mode...you are not an animal and are obviously able to think with your head before doing something stupid and violent. Don't stoop to the ugliness of others or you become just like them...although, I bet you looked quite fierce and probably sent a warning signal to her that she was not even aware of! ha

Just to clarify, she IS an animal and so are you and I with millennia of fight/flight conditioning hard wired into our little brains. Never underestimate the risk of having your lights punched out by someone you would never suspect of showing aggressive behaviour, given certain stresses.

@Arouet Of course I know biologically we are all animals...I am just using the term in context of differentiating between those of higher intelligence that are able to ascertain the situation and control the biological urgings as opposed to those who react and get themselves in trouble...AmiSue would not be one to let a rude person which she encounters on a daily basis ruin her job or her freedom...I am merely trying to give her credit for being higher up on the chain than the average "animal"

I hope there's a video.
