Why do people believe untrue things? This is a question I struggle with constantly. I found a TEDx talk (

) that sheds a lot of light on the subject. Please watch and give your opinion.

Anytime a speaker begins "we believe" he is selling something while Atheists are declarative never making bizarre belief statements....worming into hundreds of words a few Atheist facts is poor "atheism" beholding to xian Webster and sophmoric assumptions

Belief is a habit while fact checking dispels all beliefs....TED talks are pandering to general audiences while Atheists are rarely invited to TED

this is the basis of critical thinking, we ask why.
we look for sources We Trust based on previous experience, we never trust too much we look for verification by other means and other sources and we maintain an open mind.

This man has some interesting points. As for flat Earthers, I have flown in planes and I also build over the air TV antennas. If you understand anything about these things you will know more about the curvature of the Earth.

I saw this one recently. Very interesting. It's changed my perspective on a few things.

Very interesting. He probably deliberately steered away from mentioning religion but it describes religious belief perfectly. I have my doubts about the intelligence of flat earthers but I have known some very intelligent religious people who could argue there case brilliantly.

Truth is what the facts are. Truth is what is ever can coordinate with reality. Truth is whatever can be shown verifiably accurate and demonstrable.one reason why they say the facts are cold hard facts because the guilty criminal who is lying through his teeth to proclaim his innocence knows that the facts will reveal the truth and they will go to jail. To believe anything without reservation or question would be foolish. Personally as a free thinker I seek the truth no matter where it may lie.and if I'm wrong I will admit it and I will want to get more understanding of whatever I'm wrong about.

The points raised in this video correlate well with the Dunning Kruger effect that people tend to overestimate their own abilities and knowledge and that that tendency is most acute the less one knows about a subject. Those who have learned more have a much better grasp of the sheer volume of what they don't know.
