[deadstate.org] Reporter’s questions cause megachurch pastor to panic and cry out to God: ‘Lord, help me’
That’s why I’m not a millionaire. I don’t like flying! Garrrd, obviously doesn’t know where to find me to give that lottery ticket!
God obviously picked him to spread the word of God. So God obviously wanted him to have that jet and the cars and all the money. It's a great scheme that can't be unproven. Just like the concept of God. It's not falsifiable.
Why do good things happen to bad people?
Because bad people take advantage of the sad and desperate?
People like Copeland make me physically ill. They are leeches and a scourge to society. Charlatans. Morally no different than criminals and some career politicians. The world, and many people, would be better off without them in it.
I think they're worse than ordinary criminals. Regular criminals sneak in and steal in secret. These blood suckers look their victims in the eye and smile while they're robbing them.
@BitFlipper The expression "robbing you blind" comes to mind as a person would have to be blind to be robbed by this charlatan.
The sorrowful thing is that the USA has so many gullible suckers who will believe anything the charlatans of religion utter. Why has education failed them?
Remember, the US was originally colonized by religious zealots. We have a rich Puritanical heritage that has been very effectively handed down through the generations. Brainwashing people from birth is extremely effective.
@Piratefish That is a partial fallacy. Many trading colonies were founded in various East Coast areas by non-zealots. Then there was an influx of people from Europe, escaping poverty and war, not religious persecution.
@Petter The Puritanical influence is still undeniable, and unique to the U.S. It sets us aside from all the other developed nations.
@Piratefish It certainly does. The puzzle is why was it not diluted out? It's continued persistence is almost like a proof of the efficacy of homeopathy!
@Petter I wish I knew how to help usher it out. The rest of the world (with only a few exceptions) seems to be catching on more quickly than the U.S. is. That's for sure.
The u.s. is public education system has been going downhill since the mid 70s to early 80s you don't want them to know enough to make their own decisions. children today cannot even do simple math in their head, let alone answer any real questions that require rational thinking.
@Piratefish Actually I think you are overlooking something, namely "hysteresis". Think of a light switch being operated, very slowly. The toggle moves, with no apparent effect on the power supply, then it suddenly switches. In the USA the evangelical "light" is bright, but the switch is slowly being depressed. Nearly a quarter of all Americans now have no faith, and the numbers are rising as the older generation dies out. My hope is that it will suddenly switch as the hysteresis lag point is reached.
The best thing america can do is start taxing churches andexpose the fraudsters to examination
How do his followers even make sense of this? 5 boats? So god talks to him only when he is traveling by air or sea?
The religious abhor logic. They have been discouraged from using it for many, many centuries. Why would they start now?
