I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

Never relent from the fight, never surrender.

If we didn't have fear our species would have died out. Sometimes "retreat is the better part of valour"

Dune is a good series of books.

Moab Deeb! Now fire up some spice. πŸ˜‰

As was once said by a very wise person, " There is NOTHING to Fear except Fear itself."

didn't he say:" There is NOTHING to Fear except Fear itself & the bogeyman"?

@callmedubious Just like ALL Gods, Goddesses and Deities, etc, the Bogeyman is also a truly no-existent thing, they all are mere products of the Imagination.

@Triphid ,
that was meant as a joke.
guess it didn't work with you.

@callmedubious Yeah I got the joke.

sharks, snakes, red backs, mice and americans with loaded guns scare the hell outta me.

@MsDemeanour Sharks, snakes, red-backs and gun-toting Yanks worry me too, BUT, mice I can handle, all it takes is a trap baited with a Chicken pellet and glued in place with PVA glue, instant dead rodent with a one way ticket down the sewer to meet up with any who have gone before it.

@Triphid I might have to hire you. I'm ashamed to admit I am completely irrational when it comes to mice.

@MsDemeanour I thoroughly detest rodents such as mice, etc, and enjoy devising new ways to eradicate them from around my home, etc.
One of my all-time favourites, but primarily for outside the house usage is mixing equal parts of icing sugar, plaster of Paris and tiling grout in a small open ended jar and leaving in places where only the mice and other rodent pests can reach it.
I'll leave it to your imagination what effects that mixture has on the digestive tract of the mice.

I was 23, in Vietnam, flying a Huey way too many hours daily. This got me through some interesting situations. And then in the corporate world, same thing. Great mind-stillng mantra.

"Fear is the greatest motivator" [origin-of-religion.com] There are other quotes related to conquering fear. Fear is necessary but not frightening if perceived with a balanced approach.

Fear is what keeps Governments in Power and Religions alive and well funded. - William Anthony, 2019.

Great!

Loved the novel Dune and many of Frank Herbert's other novels. But this bit has always resonated. TY for posting this.

I used that quote just a week or two ago. Another good one is the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one.

Frank Herbert. It's important, but difficult to face your fears. I trapped two mice recently all by myself. I had to get help the last time. It's a silly fear, but really quite intense.

spiders. mice are a piece of cake. spiders on the other hand . . . . πŸ™‚

@silverotter11 I had a colleague who was afraid of spiders and periodically I would hear a shriek from her office as she was β€œinvaded.” I would go down and trap it for her taking it outside for the birds to eat or whatever. Interestingly she did not want me to kill it in her office. Life was precious to her.

i hope you trapped the mice humanely & set them free.

Dont be that guy (or gal)

For me anxiety is the mind killer.

The beginning sounds like Paul Atreides the end sentence sounds like Quincy Taggart, I on the other hand just wind up with mentat eyebrows.😁

I loved that novel!

It is by will alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the juice of sapho that thoughts acquire speed, the lips acquire stains, the stains become a warning. It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.

For me it's coffee 😁 we don't have the right kind of worms for sapho.

I like it. Did you write that ?
