A couple weeks ago, I went looking for a group to join here. I thought about how I spend the majority of my free time, and it came down to "watching TV". Yes, commercial TV, the trailer trash of TV. So I searched.
There's a group specifically for Game of Thrones, but I don't have HBO, have never seen it, and really...dragons? Nah.
There's a group for late night shows, but I'm usually asleep by 9pm.
There's a group for binge watching Netflix series, and sometimes there's a post about something on Prime that people are watching.
But, there is no general TV Watchers group. I've gathered from many comments I've read, TV is considered low-class around here. Whether it's an aversion to commercial advertising, or just too passive an activity, y'all just seem to really hate television.
Tell me why, or prove me wrong by telling me what you watch.
I don't like most network TV. Most of the stuff I watch is on basic cable, streaming or PBS. I know some people automatically think TV is low-brow, but I really don't - it's all about being very discerning about picking and choosing what I like and being able to watch when I want to, which is why I rely on the DVR. But I don't have any premium cable and only the basic streaming service. Not being able to get out much because of health and financial reasons, I'm grateful for the option of being able to watch at home. And yes, I do like a little bit of trash every now and then.
Perhaps you could consider starting a TV-watching group here? If people are going to be so high and mighty about it, you could just ignore them. You'll find your people.
Haven’t looked for or joined any groups around here.. the main forum is plenty for me.
My cable provider recently increased the cost of having TV, commercial TV. Paying to watch advertisement? I dropped it, the only thing I’d actually watch were community events, parades, HS sports.. interviews with ‘the coach’...
Even dropped Netflix.. I’d back out of watching maybe 8 of 10 movies or series due to cliched characters, formulaic plots and distance from reality… I’d rather walk around the block!
I watch YouTube, and it’s knows it.. Cuz it’s loading the site with more, and more and MORE advertisement.. But after muting, resting my eyes and filtering through their ads, the content, though often hit or miss, is real. Some, like I watched last night, are truly magnificent!
Along with commercial free radio, podcasts, or streamed audio books, I may never again watch commercial TV again
@Ms_McSteven It’s weird, my smart TV doesn't have the ad pressure my laptop does on YouTube.. But, it’s far harder to search…
My TV is tied into my (new) sound system, so I can Rock! Living alone ..I can also get away with it
I don't know how old you are, but I think a lot of older people watch TV most evenings. If you are on your own it is company, and certainly, in the U K there is plenty of good stuff to watch. I like police and other mystery series, good drama, nature, travel, that sort of thing, and one helping of the news each day. You probably have completely different programmes in the USA, though.
I’m with you Ms_McS. Being retired, my evening TV shows is the only way I keep track of what day it is! The TV doesn’t come on until the five o’clock or later news. And there are nights that don’t have anything of interest on (what DVD’s and streaming are for). But I love AGT, NCIS, The Code in the new season line up. No TV snob here!!
I wouldn't mind a group for a couple of the shows I watch. I posted about Curse of Oak Island once and it didn't seem like there was anybody else watching.
I also watch Project Runway. I'd love a group for PR!
I'd have to say other than those two shows I mostly watch cooking competition shows or Big Bang Theory reruns.
