Anymore I swear they are almost the same thing

How do you measure something like that?

I cannot speak for the group, just for myself. I consider both awful. One way they are similar is that I see there can be decent, respectful people who are Christian and/or Republican. They just have not thought through what their respective groups really teach and advocate. The institutions themselves are horrendously disengenuous and abusive. The main difference is that the GOP as an ideology-touting group has changed more rapidly and dramatically than has Christianity. GOP has always been pro-wealthy and pro-mega-corporations to the detriment of everyone else, but in the past 40 years or so, their tactics and assault on democratic foundational freedoms have swung dramatically to the shittier. Christianity has certainly had a more abusive history relative to its present. Some, though certainly not all, factions have even adapted to social reality in more tolerant and accepting ways, e.g. the sharp increase in Christians and churches no longer condemning gays. Either way, don't look for me to be joining either group in this lifetime.

As the Republican party tends to identify with and be backed by the Christian establishment, and passes many laws based solely on religious dogma (example: the various "heartbeat bills" and other anti-abortion laws), it's easy to be both.

And, since the large majority of atheists polled also self-identify as liberal, and the Republican party is dedicated to conservative ideology... well, there you go.

I am anti -don't- be- ignorant...the same principles used to make my decisions on any religion, not just Christian, and the beliefs in a god, ie. critical thinking and analytical ability/science, are the same as the ones that shape my political views...

I like facts, intelligent and educated people, well written and documented books, carefully researched articles, etc. to be my "bible" and not misinformation, parroted propaganda, YouTube "experts", goofy theories (flat earth), or conspiracy nonsense..

You most likely find that those who think critically will often be labeled "anti" something. As for me I am against religion (of any kind) when it's used to justify hate ir curtail civil rights. I have been a registered independent for 40 years having voted for both parties. If you use critical thinking skills and actual facts you'd most likely find fault with both of these institutions, not simply against them.

I’m neither. I dislike all religions equally, preferring reason to indoctrination, and refuse to single out any one in particular. As I’m not an American, I’m not in a position to be pro or anti either of your political parties.

I consider myself ambihatrous in that I can dislike both equally.

A very mixed bag are we. Very.

But I will point out something - just because one doesn't identify with a given group, doesn't automatically mean they are "anti" that group.

For instance, I was brought up Catholic, learned early on it wasn't for me. But I have nothing against Catholics, or any other religion. Just do your thing, and let me do mine.

As for politics ... I'll just say I'm no fan of the current White House occupant.
