Folks seem to be amazed that the USA is considered "The Gunfighter Nation". My generation was brought up on the myth of the "Lone Gunfighter" cleaning up all that was evil and wrong. It's pervasive in our culture:

Unfortunately the US became the nation of complainers.

Yep.
"Wah! They want to make my bang bang toys slightly harder to buy just 'cause they're responsible for hundreds of deaths per year!"
"Boohoo! I have to treat black people like actual people!"
"Argh! Men kissing!"
"Blaah! Someone else speaking Spanish makes me feel uncomfortable because I find different things scary!"

Every nation is addicted to it's own bullshit. I come from Australia, where people still act like it was empty before white guys turned up. Now I live in the UK, where people believe that the British Empire wasn't built on exploitation.

Each nation has it's own mythology. Here in Scotland we still think that our national football team will get to the world cup finals again.

@Moravian and that it could be a functional independent state (runs from the room protecting his head from thrown objects).

@MrBeelzeebubbles And that is even more likely now with Boris as PM

@Moravian This is very true. The selfish part of me wants to beg the Scots not to leave, as England is so gerrymandered we'll be stuck with the Tories forever
