Ha! Bet that library got an influx of a thousand more books he would want to burn.

I blocked killtheskyfairy, I asked her to stay on topic with the book burning instead of continuing to attack my state. so bye bye! I live in Iowa and that book burner got a slap on the wrist. It is not enough in my opinion. I love books. I have an entire wall that is floor to ceiling and wall to wall books. Everything from science fiction to crafts to skills I need in my life. Book burning brings images to mind of Hitlers regime.

Wow ... libraries have books I do not approve of, but I don't deface or burn them. I mean, libraries have books for all kinds of people. If you disagree with something, you just ignore it. I can't understand these characters who are into book burning. Makes me think of 1930's Germany, when huge numbers of books got burned.

Let the punishment fit the crime.
1,Criminal record for theft (he had no intention of returning the books)
2, A fine equal to ten times the replacement value of the books,
3, Community service in which he would be required to source, purchase and re-install copies of all the books he burnt at his own expense,
4, An apology in writing to all he offended, or face to face if required by anyone.

Where in Iowa was this? I live in that state myself.

@NoPlanetB Not near me

Libraries have money marked to replace lost books every year - it's part of the process.

However I know some librarians who could make him feel like an idgit for doing that.
He should be made to serve time binding books and shelving in the library he did the book damage to.

Not near the children's section though - we try to keep the riff raff out. (Once a library worker always a library worker....). 😁

Burning a book? Give him a taste of the fire.

A local bookstore where I live had been sponsoring a transgender story time for children one Sunday a month. It has been picketed numerous times but police can’t do anything because they are not on the property. The story time has been moved but will continue to go on.

I've seen those in the news they look awesome!

Right up there with the drag-queen story hours.👍

4

Bible belt self righteous moron has the audacity to censor books he is the one who should be burned. This harkens to the Nazi book burning

Wow, $125 dollars! I bet he'll never do crazy shit like that ever again...right???

It pisses me off that Iowa gets the attention and huge input into our Presidential elections when most Iowans are stupid yahoos and religious fanatics like this guy. Book burners are not who we want making major decisions about our future.

Excuse me but I AM AN IOWAN! Most of us are not as you describe at all!

@misstuffy removed all of her posts so mine look like I am bullying when she was the first to insult me. 🤡 you say it in your profile so who are you kidding? I lived in Davenport for almost three years and thought I would go crazy. Iowans should not have the power and attention they get. It’s just ridiculous! Republican governor and both senators with some of the craziest US reps in the country!

@Killtheskyfairy but I don't paint ALL Iowans in that light, you just did! Bible thumpers are in every state, not just Iowa and I never labeled everyone in the state as stupid, but you did.

@misstuffy 😂Trump called Iowans stupid and then the state overwhelmingly voted for him. Pretty darn stupid! I don’t want idiots like that deciding who gets on the ballot.

@Killtheskyfairy We all know Trump has the IQ of a turnip. I can't wait to get rid of the entitled idiot. The actual count was closer than you think, but the electoral votes went to him, there were plenty of us who didn't vote for him. Closer to half of us, Iowa alone did not put him in the white house.

@misstuffy 51% for Trump. 41% for Hillary I’d say that was a pretty wide margin for a state Trump called stupid. I don’t want them getting the first crack at our primaries.

@Killtheskyfairy The post was about book burning and yet, somehow you are turning it political because why??? Jealous of Iowa's first in the nation status for the caucus. Why not get back on topic and if this bothers you so much, make a post under the politics tab. You can disagree and dislike our status without insulting everyone in the state just because of your own jealousy.

@misstuffy 🤡perfect example of why Iowa is not fit to hold the first primary and I encourage progressive states to change their dates. No jealousy involved, just pure Democratic self interest. 🤬Why should a state that went overwhelmingly for the tangerine nightmare, has two spooky right wing senators and some of the scariest US Congressmen get to pick our national Democratic candidate?🤨

There is someone below me going off on Iowa but you pick me to try to argue with? 🥴🤐

Our primary system is totally fubar'd! We let a handful of small states knock off half the candidates before most of us get a chance to do any evaluation. I'd encourage the reasonable candidates to boycott NH, IA, SC and let the rest of us have a chance for our votes to count.

@jerry99 thank you! I know it can’t just be me who gets sick about the show in Iowa. They interview some of the dumbest hicks at the Iowa state fair and they are supposedly representing democrats and deciding our future!

@Killtheskyfairy In case you didn't get it the first time around the real numbers were closer to 50/50 and not overwhelmingly for the orange one whom I happen to despise among many many other Iowans and as I also stated earlier this was true in many other states as well, not just my own. GROW THE EFF UP! Get back on topic, your jealousy of Iowa is quite obvious but the topic of THIS post is BOOK BURNING and NOT my states position as first in the nation in politics. If you would educate yourself you would find Iowa is home to many many extremely intelligent people who make a real difference in the world. The father of the world food prize was an Iowan, the famed writer's workshop IS in IOWA, We have Astronauts from Iowa too!

@NoPlanetB whatever! I was talking to someone who deleted her posts.

@Killtheskyfairy I've lived in Iowa my whole life and you'll get no argument from me about how most of them are ignorant hicks. There are really only about three liveable areas in the whole state and they all have universities in them. The rest of the state is rural backwaters and still exert a large cultural influence even on the liveable areas I mentioned. That is why it's so tough to find anyone compatible to date even in the most urban part of Iowa unless you are lucky enough to meet a transplant to Iowa from somewhere more progressive that just happens to be available and interested in dating when you meet them, like my late wife was in '95.

@Killtheskyfairy It's not you. She is a strange one. I have traded some PMs with her. She seems to be more of a typical Iowan than a progressive hipster like most of us. Sometimes all we have in common on this site is our non-belief, otherwise some of us are just as conservative and traditional as the believers in the Bible Belt. So it's important not to assume too much just because someone is a member of this site and a non-believer.

@misstuffy No one is jealous of Iowa, not even Kansas. 🙂

@misstuffy, @TomMcGiverin How true, how true. i have been blocked by two morons today alone. It's a good day.

Nice read, thanks for sharing.

The bit he doesn’t get is that there is a deviant sexuality about arson. He doesn’t like the closet but too afraid of what’s outside!

His attitude is not surprising as he lives in the western part of Iowa, a cultural wasteland and backwater, as far as this Iowan is concerned. There are no universities there, almost everyone is conservative, white, and religious, and Steve King represents them in congress, a man who is openly as racist as Trump. What does surprise me, since Orange City has a college that is conservative Christian, is that some brave souls organized a Pride event. That part is encouraging. About the only liveable parts of Iowa are in the central and eastern parts of the state where there are some universities which attract educated, diverse, and tolerant people. The rest of the state outside the larger cities are mostly filled with rubes, hicks, and other ignorant, narrow-minded types that are best to avoid at all costs....

You mean, this isn't heaven? (sorry. I couldn't resist)

@greyeyed123 Nope, it isn't. More like the T-shirt I bought from a local snarky shop that says "Iowa, a great black hole you can never escape from, but a great black hole to raise kids in ".........

@TomMcGiverin Trump's approval rating seems to be underwater in Iowa, for quite some time. Do you think he will lose Iowa?

@greyeyed123 Possibly, if only because he pissed off a lot of the farmers who voted for him with his tariffs against China on crops they grow as well as his lack of support for ethanol and renewable energy. He lost some support with his stands on each of those issues. I could have told them back in 2016 what he was going to do on each issue, but these fools would never have believed me.

So much for "thou shalt not steal."

Fundies believe that rules don't apply to them. After all, they are just obeying god's orders.

Interesting, in the UK it is almost always the case that the fine should be ten times the value of the items destroyed.

The UK has sense. We don't.

Low fine. But, still ... yaaasssss!
