"A Common Trait Among Mass Killers: Hatred Toward Women" ....................................

“Most mass shooters have a history of domestic or family violence in their background. It’s an important red flag ... A professed hatred of women is frequent among suspects in the long history of mass shootings in America ... a number of these men have identified as so-called incels, short for involuntary celibates, an online subculture of men who express rage at women for denying them sex. ................................................

Federal law prohibits people convicted of certain domestic violence crimes, and some abusers who are subject to protective orders, from buying or owning guns. But there are many loopholes, and women in relationships who are not married to, do not live with, or have children with their abusers receive no protection ... In a case that highlights the so-called boyfriend loophole, in 2016, a man who had been convicted of stalking a girlfriend he had briefly dated shot the girlfriend and her three children. His conviction did not prevent him from having or purchasing guns ... Federal law also does not provide a mechanism for actually removing guns from abusers, and only some states have enacted such procedures ... The National Rifle Association, the nation’s largest gun lobby, has opposed efforts to expand the situations in which individuals accused of abuse can lose the right to own guns, saying that doing so would deny people due process and punish people for behavior that is not violent." .................................................................................

How is stalking a woman either not violent or a threat of violence? What on earth can we do to get around all the loopholes and opposition to gun control?

I think all these laws are an attempt to deal with the symptoms of a social malaise instead of treating the cause. If they think the cause is incurable, that's tragic, but they might be right.

Would you like to be more specific? What would you define as the cause of the malaise?

I don't know for sure. Greater minds than mine say the malaise is due to loss of meaning in life. Meaning has been linked to an individual sense of responsibility for the life of those around us. Perhaps loss of meaning has removed that sense and left an emptiness that just wants to strike out at anything getting in the way of gratification.

Sad but very true.

This article is all over the place. The author can’t seem to decide if they want to talk about INCELS or abusive partners. Considering the whole gripe coming from the INCEL camp is that they can’t get laid, the chances of any of these dudes falling in to the abusive partner category is pretty remote. Unless you’re talking about the abuse their right hand perpetrates upon their wang.

I find it difficult to formulate a response when I don’t know which group the author is blaming.

Incels are created from their own rage, as are abusers....you are Willfully blind to the very clear connection because you are a gun nut, period.

An abusive partner can be a boyfriend, an ex, a stranger, or a stalker who could be any of the former.
How is that not clear? Do you think most women, many of whom are eventually murdered, make up the facts when they show and/or say they've had an abusive relationship?

Forget shooters..the GOP are obviously the dangerous women haters who enable killers to have access to military weapons, and provide no legal recourse for women.

Thank you for posting. The nra puts the burden on the woman. “She should get a gun to protect herself.” is what they would say. Guns of course are big business. So how can we make womans’ saftey profitable. I say make abusive man season for hunting. Where women and kids get 1/2 off ammo and tree blinds are set up around gun shops. Any convicted abuser on parole, within 100yards of a gun shop is open hunting. Your thinking “But Lucas, how will we identify them?” I am glad you asked. Convicted abusers will have their heads shaved and antlers tattooed on their heads ensuring a 30 day cool off period for their hair to grow back. See problem solved!

But, but, isn't blaming the victim the right thing to do? Remember when schizophrenia was the mother's fault? When your husband wouldn't Have to beat you if only you could be more perfect? (I do!l. And etc......

"What on earth can we do to get around all the loopholes and opposition to gun control?" Vote the Republicans out of office.

Definitely will help!

My thoughts exactly, because they’re the ones who've brought us here. But as long as good people continue to have independent thoughts, and bad people simply follow, it’s going to be near impossible to keep good people on political track long enough to repair the damage the Republicans have done to our nation's laws & courts 😕
