Some of you are skeptical but this is what is at stake. And, if this happens, there will be a hard push by the Christian Right to shape America of the future.

It would never be in their best interest politically and that is assuming they would even want to. Doing something that radical and uncostitutional is something only Obama and Hillary can get away with apparently. Not all conservatives are religious.

I would ask what you a nattering about, but I really do not want to hear it. Religious conservatives see this as being of utmost importance and they will do everything in their power to accomplish it.

Clinton and Obama would never do this or anything like it.

Yes, it is unconstitutional. But, the current crop of Republicans disagrees and would make it Constitutional if they could.

Another point I would like to add is that this whole conversation is a good example of how emotional and reactive people get when it comes to any political discussion. I only say that because I notice that I do the same thing. I understand it, but I also see how I could be jumping to the most negative potential outcome of any change in government. I think everyone does that now and it is part of what is dividing our country. That is why most politicians take on the role of respresenting one extreme or the other, because that is how everyone is reacting to everything that happens now. Compromise is the only solution. There will be a civil war before socialism is an accepted form of government in this country and that would actually be a good wake up call for the liberal extremists that want paint democracy as socialism. Totally not the same thing. They will say it will be different and try to sell it to us as in everyones best interest because that is what all politicians do. Eventually, every Socialist country must bend to the will of the social elitists in power and most individual freedoms are completely forgotten.

This has nothing to do with socialism.

You are blind, Monty.

States that want to be socialist and remove individual rights from citizens with an even more powerful and totalitarian government can do so on their own without bringing everyone else down with them. Not sure if that would get past a majority vote but that would be the most reasonable comprimise at this point. The only difference with that convention is state representatives will vote to upturn certain amendments that no longer apply to modern day society. Very few will pass a majority vote, meaning those that do will be replaced with something that fits what we need better that they also vote on. Not everyone in government cares that much about laws that bring religion into stuff. Not popular with majority votes since there is a clear seperation of church and state and people are less religious overall now and watching for that sort of thing better. Learn more about the process, forget which political party is actually in power, it really doesnt matter. If it did we would have a wall with laser turretsx police would not have to answer for much and illegal aliens over crowding our capitalist infrastructure with undocumented overpopulation would no longer be a problem.

It does not work that way. States that want a totalitarian form of government can’t. Such laws would be slapped down as being unconstitutional.

Political party matters. Trump’s Administration is already inserting religion into government and we a probably one Justice from it becoming “constitutional.”

You suggested I learn more about the process. Take you own advice. I already understand it better than you do.

Sounds like a good idea actually. This is how the government was meant to work and if anything the laws will more appropriately reflect what people actually need at this time. If you think it matters what political party is in power you do not understand how laws are made! Any decision to amend current laws will still be voted on and require a two thirds majority vote from either congress or both the senate and the house of representatives. Then they compromise on the best course of action. This has needed to happen for a very long time. If it does not civil war is innevitable.

Source:

That is not how Amendments to the Constitution are passed. And, it certainly is not how a Constitutional Convention would work. And, it’s not even how laws are passed by Congress.

And, yes, it certainly matters what the political make up of the Senate and House is. That very fact is why so many federal judgeships were not passed in Obama’s last term. And, politics is why so little of what the House has passed is not even voted on by the Senate.

thankfully, their numbers are dwindling. fastest growing demographic is non believers. they know they are losing their hold and they are gonna kick and spit and scream but it will only serve to fuel separation of church and state movement. their public lunacy does more for atheists than any of our activism. kudos to them for that.

The problem is they control the government and nearly enough states to call a constitutional convention... dwindling numbers or not!

I think because they know their numbers are dwindling they are more likely to be more aggressive in trying to remain in control. Voter suppression is one of these efforts. They think that anything is allowed as long as it is done in the name of Jesus--profit-loving, power-hungry Jesus.

@Joanne yeah they are definitely gonna kick and scream. prbly get worse before it gets better. like a rebellious child. but they're losing ground and the crazier they behave the faster society will reject them

@Joanne, @Rob1948 i don't think christians control govt. not 'real' ones anyways. more like zionists and fascists. doubt even one of them goes to church on a regular basis. Trump damn sure isn't 'christian' no matter what he says. the powers just use religion to exploit the ppl. they know it's bs. Israel exploits christians to the max! it would be comical really if there weren't such abhorrent results.

@jniece Pay attention to Trump’s executive orders, federal judicial appointments, Pence and what Barr are doing. You just might change your mind.

@jniece :What to you consider to be a "real" Christian?

There are many different beliefs about Jesus, which is why there are so many different sects and denominations. People can use the Bible to support many different points of view.

In my opinion there are no "true" Christians nor any "false" Christians...there are simply those who have a more humanistic, loving, caring view of this Jesus and those who see him as the one who will reign down his fiery justice, demands that you forsake all others for him, thinks that he has chosen “elected” certain people, will separate the wheat from the chaff, and will send you to eternal hell if you don't believe in him.

The great commission, after all, is to go out into the world and make everyone Christians. Matt 28:19: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…” It wasn’t go out, be good people, and respect other people’s beliefs.

Everything these win the world for Jesus, Right Wing, Dominionist, Evangelicals believe can be supported by a Bible verse. And, there are plenty of Bible verses that can be used against their theology. This is another reason why this book cannot be the work of any god—it is too contradictory. Any god wanting to send a clear message about what it wanted would have done a better job of it.

If you have Netflix, watch the documentary "The Family." Or, buy the book it is based upon if you don't. It is not a joke and so many things that have been, and are, going on make so much more sense after watching this. These people are actively trying to subvert our democracy and push their power-loving, corporate, Jesus agenda. They think they are chosen by god and they will do anything they can get by with to achieve their goals. And, they are not only thinking locally, but globally. I am very skeptical of conspiracies, but there is no doubt in my mind about what they are up to--and have been up to for decades.

Surely there are enough people in America that don’t live in the Bible Belt.

Do people in DC or Minnesota or North Dakota have the same ‘Christian problem’?

I live in DC. No we don't have the Christian problem, as in trying to change local laws to fit their religion. We have a host of other problems🙂

They control government and nearly enough states to call for a constitutional convention. It will get worse if Trump is re-elected.

Is there a link?

Yep, I added it.

g

Shark attack?

"This is what happens. It indicates the non-frenzied feeding of a large squalis, possibly angimanus or isurus glaucus. Now, the enormous amount of tissue loss prevents any detailed analysis. However, the attacking squalis must be considerably larger than any normal squalis found in these waters...."

@Paul4747
