I've just begun my 59th year! Woohoo! Does life get better as you get older? Wisdom comes with experience. Have you found serenity with wisdom?

Other than aches and pains that I didn't use to have, being 61 is great. I LOVE being retired and not having a lot of the obligations and drains on my time that I had when I was younger. Most people achieve a peace with themselves as they get older and they care a lot less about what other people think or chasing the latest shiny thing our consumer culture promotes to try and part you from your money. I wouldn't go back if it were possible.

I think life becomes more precious ...as you have less of it.. I’d hope it gets better. Have taken very good care of myself, and, society appears to have all kinds of benefits for those of us having reached ‘this age.’

On the whole, a successful husband, parent, sibling and son, it feels like ‘kick back’ time, for me. Forced to cash in & move on several years ago, and relocating in a magnificent place ...with work not requiring I set an alarm. No complaints 🙂

I think serenity and wisdom, like infinity, do not exist, rather they are ideals we may strive for but never achieve.

I believe serenity and wisdom are achievable.

@Wildflower Of course one may achieve some degree of serenity and wisdom, but the death of a parent, spouse or child will temporarily affect serenity. Wisdom implies a person makes sense, but no one can know everything; thus, the wisest man on Earth will sometimes make a mistake.

I hope that better explains the intent of my comment.

Depends where you start from, if your childhood was truly evil then life can't do anything but get better. Happy Birthday.

I hear that. I've come a long way from my disturbing childhood. And I'm grateful.

@Wildflower Me too. Best wishes for your future. Some of us know that childhood can be a form of purgatory, but like they say, what does not break you leaves you stronger, and hopefully more empathic to others who suffer.

I got lost in my garage tonight. The lights were on.

Age provides some comfort, in that you don't have to pretend to be young any more.

Yes. Interesting... pretend to be young. I've never pretended to be young.

@Wildflower I did.

Happy birthday, dear Wildflower!

Hell NO, serenity does not automatically come with getting old.

Oooomm... (attempts lotus position) Ow! My knees! That didn't work.

I agree that serenity does not come with getting old. But wisdom, that has brought me some serenity. Wisdom comes with experience not age.

That’s if can remember it lol. Your right
