My fav thing...a male bird, turkey or perhaps peacock, strutting making impressive displays, shaking those tail feathers, and the females in the area barely, if at all, glancing up from pecking gravel....too funny!

Very true. In songbirds it is mostly the males that sing and they are either calling for a mate or telling others not to invade their territory. I find it very sad when in late summer after raising a brood or two they stop singing.

no, THIS is reality

?. What has that got to do with birds singing ?

@Moravian He's posting it as a comment on a lot of posts.

@Fernapple Strange guy.I saw one thread where he was abusive to another poster for no obvious reason.

@Moravian no, I dig the cartoon ... but calling that reality presents some issues.

@JeffMesser It's a cartoon and meant to be funny but there is truth in it as the main reason birds sing is to warn of potential intruders in to their territory.

@ToolGuy they ain't doing it for You!

@ToolGuy I don't read that into it. The humour is in the fact that we think bird song is beautiful but it is actually one bird telling others to keep away.Nothing to do with whether the birds do it consciously or instinctively

@ToolGuy I think we do sometimes overthink and intelectualise things when the simpler answer is better.

@Moravian Where's the fun in not doing that?

@Jacar Where's the fun in trying to appear clever by intelectulaising a joke so that it is not funny any more.

@Moravian What else is life for?
