Just wondering to myself....how many of us spend more time thinking about "god", now...than we ever did as "believers"....for instance, as a want-a-be christian, my average thoughts of god, were, of course, on sundays, and occasionally when the preacher came around to remind me of the fabulious life that god had granted me, and how I owed support of the church to "Him" for that wonderful life....otherwise, I hardly ever gave thought to god.....now I find my self daily ( almost) visiting a website that brings to mind "god"... just wondering.......

Never really bothered about God one way or the other

Thank you

Personally, I look back at the gods they taught me about as a kid as just another aspect of my childhood that I easily outgrew (at about age 11). Not long thereafter, I became interested in anthropology and structural mythology, which allowed me to see those ideas in a different light.

Thank you

I have not spent any time thinking about God in the last 22 years other than ranting at him and religion and doing my part in helping destroy it. I am a Devil's hand.

Thank you

For me, I dwelled on it a bit when I first left the church. I reached a point where I'd gotten that out of my system. Now I don't dwell on it much.

Initially I did but once I made up my mind, the only time I think about God is when someone else brings it up.

Thank you

When I was a child, raised to believe in a literal God, I probably tried to avoid God as much as possible, but now that I see God as a metaphor for the entirety of reality, I am at peace with the concept, and it recedes in emotional content to the status of any other useful abstraction. I no longer have a push-pull relationship with God, but a comfortable acceptance of “what is.”

I try not think of god or religious bs. I'm wasting my time if I do and I'm happier If I don't. Being an Atheist has made me a happier person.

Congratulations on being a happier person.....thank you for your comment

it only comes up in response to stimulus. i think about it a lot when i am here. exposed to it. i think about it when my kids bring it up. or i think about it when the religious approach me or offer opinions in public. sometimes i chafe when the opposing team's player indicates my team didn't win but for the will of god. or when god saved you after he allowed you to drive off the cliff? yeah, i reflexively mutter at that one too.

i don't recall the amount of time i thought about it when reasoning my way out of it... once a week at church at a minimum. correction probably at least twice. when i thought "i don't want to" when my parents made me rise on sunday and whether i was going to buck the system with an argument on the way there or not. most likely the sermon would elicit one comment to my dad on the way home or later if it struck me, but that is still centered around sunday.

i probably do think about it more than a lot of people. i have to think it is more than religious people think about it...

Certainly is true for me......religion vs god, ....thank you for your comment

I don't think about her at all.. she has her own plans

Right......thank you for your comment

a lot of time. it is kind of silly, the way that religion becomes front and center in a place like this. I suppose there are too many carrying the baggage of pain and deceit. seemingly unable to Let It Go there are some who are bound to do their best to break it down. for what it may be worth I just pass on most of the griping about religion posts.

Thank you for your comment.....sounds like my life pardner tells me....that those things are either above or below her paygrade, and since neither have anything to do with her crocheting,......,she doesn't pay any attention to it...

@VictoriaNotes the best I can figure, is that I'm confused. I will concede politics is front and center here. I'm just remarking on how discussions in a community of unbelievers is about believing. I had no intention of stepping on anyone's toes.

@VictoriaNotes @VictoriaNotes I think I hear you, but conservatives are real. I suppose god is real enough if she's part of the conversation. And and you're right obviously the politics is inseparable from the religion.

@VictoriaNotes thanks for trying to keep me between the ditches. 😏

I don't think about God at all. I do think about religion and religious folks because of the overwhelming influence and negative effects they have on our society. If not for that, I wouldn't think about that stuff at all. If not for that, this site would not exist, and we wouldn't be discussing this stuff.

Thank you for your comment.......I applaud your ability to not think about "God"

I have to agree with Moravian on this, can't say that I ever gave it much thought to begin with.

I certainly know a ;lot more about religion than I did when I attended Sunday school but I never think about god. As an atheist I do not believe any gods exist.

And yet as you read my post, and wrote your own, you were thinking about????thank you for your reply

@HankSherman Surely to think about a god, this god has to have some form. whether it is an old man with a white beard floating on a cloud or an invisible force that controls the universe or anything in between. When I replied to your post I thought about my days in Sunday school when I last attended a church apart fro weddings and funerals and I thought about Christian friends who talk about "their Lord", but I have no idea what forn this takes.

@Moravian it was preached at me, that the image of the guy on the cross, was the mental image....the "thought" of god , was something else, and the idea of god, was so confusing that only by not thinking, could "faith" save you........something along that order....,was where religion lost me.

@HankSherman not surprising it lost you. I'm not sure if relgious people think about what form their god takes. He/she/it is jst there.

It’s been so long since I was trying to “believe” that I’ve forgotten how much time I spent in that pursuit. Like you, it was probably just during Sunday sermons. Well, also there were Wednesday night prayer meetings, I guess to keep us from straying too much during the week.

I don’t call it “God”, but I think about nature and ultimate reality constantly every day. I am deeply aware of our existence as conscious beings and I am filled with wonder and appreciation.

Thank you for your reply....it is, and has been, a fascinating trip

Yep, funny is it not. And some people say, and I am sure its true, that we know more about religion than they do.

Perhaps....thank you for your reply
