Dating sites.
Here’s a follow-up post on my recent experience with Facebook dating.
If you want to see all the available people in your area, this site works.
Since it’s free, you’ll get all kinds of profiles about all kinds of people looking for something.
Some of those profiles look suspiciously like mugshots. You might see a pic of someone’s car, dog, or midsection.
You might see the occasional decent profile of someone you’d consider meeting at some point. They probably won’t stay in touch.
I deleted my dating site today. I’ll go happily back to reveling in my independence and freedom. If I meet someone wonderful, then yay.
I think I spend enough time on Facebook already, catching up with people I know and love.
I’d love to hear about other people’s experiences.
Any luck with dating sites?

I've had a couple really good relationships from online meets - in fact one was from the now defunct Craigslist singles section - which was the wild, wild, west of sites back then !

It seems now , most of the sites pull the same shit. You join for free. If you want to actually communicate, you have to cough up some bucks. But the maddening part is, you have no way of knowing who else has decided to pay also - thus many of the folks you might be interested in cannot write back - or even receive your correspondence. And I know some sites juggle members at will, and generate notes that are not real. Then of course, there's always a sprinkling of scammers to keep you amused ! Ha.

Good luck to us all !

I have no problem looking at hundreds of prospective partners. And just like in real life, I expect nothing.

Here’s my experience on dating sites recently.

Facebook - 2 conversations. One with an interesting woman too far away to make a relationship seem likely. It is free, and I’ll probably leave my profile up.

Fitness Singles - after being inactive for several months, I was told I had a few messages. I coughed up the money to resubscribe. None of the women who had “expressed” interest replied to my messages. Gotta cancel this one soon - there’s a very shallow dating pool here :/

Zoosk - I did meet a very nice woman here, but distance was an issue.
After being inactive here for over a year, the site is telling me I have messages. I think it’s more likely an attempt to get me to subscribe again.

Match - so far I’ve interacted with a couple fake profiles, and actually met on lady for coffee, and possibly a concert tonight.

I’ve been on and off dating sites since 2010 and would say I’ve had good luck mixed in with a ton of scammers, who I learned to spot years ago. I dated one woman I met on a seniors dating website—long distance for 1-1/2 years. We were a great match, but ultimately distance made it impossible for us to continue – I still had a young son in school at the time, and she had family in her area. I had another girlfriend nearby who I met on match. We dated for two years and ultimately split because our value systems, well seemingly on par, ended up being not so similar after all. I met a third woman a few years ago who I fell for. Unfortunately, she was a serial dater and would not/could not commit. However we remain very good friends to this day. i’m still looking, online and in real life. 😊

Fitness Singles is a great way to meet healthy, fit people.

yeah, but you have to be one of them.

@BitFlipper

You're right. Fit singles are looking for fit singles.

On Fitness Singles, I saw an obese guy looking for fit women. Reminds me of the cartoon of a fat guy with a big sign on his truck:

NO Fat Chicks

Ive never had much luck, but even still, i like that they exist . I meet people because i live in a place with lots of people, but i don't think non-city people realize how hard it is to be singled-out and have someone approach you and start talking to you. Its unnerving. Much easier to write a profile and control the kind of information you get, what you reply to, no time pressure.

I opened a Facebook account in my business name when they first started. I never activated it.

That's the total of my experience with Facebook

the whole planet is a dating sight. how did people manage before computers?

I have made up my mind if I am going to meet someone at this point, it is going to be the old organic way. I managed to have plenty of relationships before social media and I have found that being alone has some real advantages. In fact when I am out shopping like yesterday and hear couples arguing about what kind of chips or cookies to get, I kind of hug myself and grab whatever I want off the shelf!! 😄

@Barnie2years i feel the same mate

@RoadGoddess i think id like a woman real friend with her own house and life if anything because i like my freedom a lot but having a woman too take for a meal or too bed would be nice hear and there xx

they were less pitiful

@lookinhard it was real and not just about money

Dating sites are like religion, lots of hot air, no substance. I have more productive ways to spend my time. Besides, if you are going to meet someone you have anything in common with, it will more likely happen in the context of normal offline life.

I don't understand why people living in huge cities even mess with dating sites. There are thousands and thousands of single folks in Houston. If I lived in Austin, pop. 1,000,000; I know I could meet women, but I live just far enough away, about 40 miles, to make it too much of a problem for socializing on a regular basis. This is actually the only dating site I mess with, and only because it is much more than that.

@RoadGoddess

bingo

The real world used to have time for socializing

Double that time with the addition of the cyber world and there is not enough time sleep.

@RoadGoddess Don't you meet people riding or do you just ride alone?

@RoadGoddess That is how I feel about this small town I am in.

Austin.......2 million,160 thousand.....just sayin......that was in `18

@lookinhard This is true for the metropolitan area. I was speaking of Austin proper. I know this, they have fucked up what was once a very unique city.

@Sticks48 Moved there in 79 from upstate ny.I think population was around 475000.Finally had to leave in `13 when the restauarant I worked at for 9 years closed.I go back a few times a year.Going down this month..And you are correct,we done f...ed up a good thing ! sad

@lookinhard I moved there in 71. I loved that city. I was on the road playing all over the country and there was no place like it. I have always felt fortunate to live their from 71 to 80 and from 84 to 91. At what restaurant were you working?

No luck on Match so far, but I’m signed up for two local Match-sponsored events — a hike and a sausage-making class. Maybe meeting live will work out.

I've been on Match for two years now and even tho my metro area has a pop. of several hundred thousand, Match has no local live events. They say there isn't enough interest, which I think is a BS excuse.

I'm still trying it , been Chatting with a few Ladies , will just see how it goes, Dating sites can be very Shady to say the least

@RoadGoddess I know, it's like you have to be on at the right time

Gave up after trying a half dozen and being totally unimpressed. Almost getting taken in by a scam artist on one was the nail in the coffin. Could have cost me a lot of money.

@RoadGoddess a beautiful, athletic woman like you should never have to use online dating. You seem to be active with cycling and other activities. Can’t you meet people doing those? If not, Texas men are even worse than their politicians! 😁

I didnt really like the Facebook one. I got excited about it when it came out. I didn't like how you couldn't just see the profiles without declining or liking each one first. I like to think on it for a minute before I make a move or pass them up.
It did inspire me to make a POF profile. Lots of action, mostly spam. A few good conversations mabey... Its only been a few days. I did meet one guy in person yesterday and it was cosmically dumb. Been thinking about writing a post about it...

DO IT! The more silly posts we share and get off of our chests, the better 😀
