The agnostic crowd is much more intelligent than the rest!! Sorry, but it is the truth. The religious fanatics have ruined this planet!! So sick of the "it's my way or the highway" crowd. There are just more brain cells here!!! Religions have just caused death and hate!!!

Bad form to apologize for reality. Those at the low end of the intelligence continuum are more likely to believe in magic, and vote for "trumps."

Reality cannot be denied.

Just rational not delusional

Each group has its own delusions. Humanity is delusional.

@WilliamFleming So true

I think you could narrow that down to "without the religious delusion". There are plenty of political delusions here.

Depends on how you define intelligence. One of the arguably most intelligent people who ever lived was a Christian.

I suspect religion is more of an emotional problem than an intellectual one. People can act like idiots without being idiots, if it is emotionally gratifying.
It's why kids have to be indoctrinated before they can reason, so they will develop hate and suspicion of all things non-religious BEFORE they have a chance to consider it rationally..

Go back a thousand years to when the catholic church was the cebtral force in all thought and learning, financed almost all art, music and was literally the mind of the nation. I know some deeply religious people; they are not stupid, simply adopt a differing view of the world and can accept the unexplainable aspects of religious ideology.

A good friend is an army pastor (catholic himself, now retired) who turned to the church a few months afer the first gulf war ... he needed something to hold life together and found the church better than a bottle. .. a route many others took. He once said 'I believe in god and the church; not because I have any rational explanation for God, but because my life would be unbearable without a belief, a hope, that there is something better than this world that we should strive to support'
His view of life is not too different to my own ... he feels a need for divinity to help him along the path ... I do not.

You don't have to search to find stupid people, in any area of life, even among agnostics. Belief and non belief are just opposite ends of a spectrum not not divide by intelligence, level but by the application of rational thought and acceptance of logical conclusions.vs ability to accept incongruence in the rational argument for the existence of god

Go back 1000 years and you also have witch burnings, the inquisition and the soon to come global genocide of native through disease and removal of all rights (because God gave the world to Crhistians right?)

It is true that religion and the Catholics did as you say, while roasting others over an open fire.
NOT something to be lauded.

Religious folks are not stupid, they are INDOCTRINATED.
read brainwashed.

yes.....Jesus is better than Meth, that's for sure. I know a lot of people that just drank/drugged their lives away. Usually after a divorce too. The thing is about being a human being, you can 'attach" yourself to anything.....a woman, sex, porn, a song, a religion...a god......and that attachment becomes a security blanket. Just take some LSD and see what you can attach yourself to. Whatever works, Popeye the Sailor, Elvis, the Beatles....I mean if something can lift you up and make you have a good laugh and make life fun......then that's the name of the game. For me, I have my own beliefs and I really don't want anybody forcing their crap on me. I didn't ram religion down my daughters throats. But they sure want to throw me into the lake of fire. NOW.....about my mother, my experience was in 94, I was not prepared for it....and neither was my mother. Soooooo the only thing I can say is at least be open. I was just like everybody on this site......that changed. You have to experience it.

I do not believe I am smarter than anyone as an agnostic, maybe more curious but not smarter. Honestly I do not trust anyone who says they are smart or has "answers" for any or everyone. The more I know the more I don't know. We are animals and our abilities are limited. Feeling good and working through my life is challenge enough for me. Thank you for sharing your thoughts here.

Define Agnostic because it's been my experience that many confuse Atheism and Agnostisizm. Or they think they are the same thing and they most certainly are not.

They’re not the same because they answer two different questions; they’re not mutually exclusive either. It is possible to be both. Agnostic describes what I do not know, atheist describes what I do not believe. Thinking of them as exclusive from one another is just as big a mistake as thinking of them as synonymous.

@Wurlitzer Agnostics deal in knowledge. Atheists deal in beliefs just like Theists.

@Norman347 That isn't true. Unless and until there is credible, verifiable evidence that proves the existence of gods, it is NOT unreasonable to say I know there aren't any.
Show me evidence and I'll rethink my position.

Theists have "faith". Atheists do not.
We are most definitely NOT the same.

@Norman347 Absolute BULLSHIT to the max.

@KKGator Methinks, and based upon my medical opinion here, someone, who shall remain unnamed, may be afflicted with C.R.I.S. (Cranio-Rectal Insertion Syndrome), a problem most frequently found in Politicians, Followers of Religions and the like.
C.R.I. S. can be remedied by 3 means, 1) A lengthy surgical procedure to separate the 'foreign object' from the canal in which has been incorrectly inserted, and Spinal fusion to, hopefully, reduce the chances of reoccurrence in the future, 2) massive oral dosages of Laxatives and intramuscular Muscle relaxants, BUT this method IS ALWAYS very, very messy after result as you can guess, and 3) the complete surgical excision of the offending part which either results in the death of the patient OR the patient becoming an even more fervent member of their chosen religion.

The great tragedy to me is that I don't believe that there is necessarily a lesser capacity on the part of religious folk for intelligence, but that through years of brainwashing and indoctrination they are taught to stifle those mental faculties.

We see evidence of belief-based ignorance every day. The scariest is from the highest echelon of our government. The good news is their base is dwindling, slowly but surely. If humankind survives long enough, we non-believers will be in the majority. Which gives us a slightly better chance of surviving even longer.

There is a lot of emotion flying around in that statement. However I do concur.
