Your thoughts?
Well technically and according to the dictionary meaning, being secular most means that a secular person has NO religious affiliation or Organised Religious Belief system.
In my opinion, one can be both an Atheist, i.e. refuting/denying the existence of any and ALL Supreme Deities/Gods, etc, and a Humanist as well since a Humanist, also by understanding, is one who cares for ALL members of the Human Race.
Hence, it could be said of me that I am both a 100% Atheist and a 100% Humanist as well as one who cares not only for Humanity at large BUT also the Ecology and Environment, etc, of this planet we call home as well.
I participate with the humanist society of greater phoenix and host one of their monthly events. What it has meant to me is that i have a community that shares mostly like minded views and allows open discourse on morality and how we can improve the world.
I don't participate as much as I'd like, and im still worki thing toward discussing it more openly as well as understanding better.
Religion has its good elements: particularly it's sense of community. Humanism is possibly a chance to for us to do something similar without a foundation of falsehoods
Secular Humanism - Treat all religious people as humans that are mentally ill instead of hating them
What?
@Atheist3 just being sarcastic... we should treat em like drug addicts... it's a disease...
@EternalVagabond What knowledge & experience do you have about drug addiction? Everybody has an opinion but not all opinions carry the the same weight. So when you say that religion is some type of mental illness, be careful, you are susceptible to the same delusion.
@Imatheistically Regardless of the initial exposure to drugs the end result is an illness that can be treated medically in conjunction with psychological intervention. The tools available are not always effective but it does provide a therapeutic approach to a condition that, as you would see, as being self induced.
My saviour! Thx!
@Atheist3 . . . the difficult done immediately -- the impossible takes a little longer
@FearlessFly Yah man!
