Has anyone ever noticed that when we point out how televangelists are just money whores, we talk about the white ones? How many times have you chastised Creflo Dollar or T.D. Jakes for their net worth? I even Googled "televangelist memes" and only saw two Creflo Dollar memes among so many others featuring Joel Osteen, Billy Graham and Joyce Meyer- and, they're not even the richest one's on this list! T.D. Jakes is #2 on this list. Why does he get a pass?

Don't call me racist for pointing it out because, no matter how you respond, you'll sound racist, too.

Televangelists, faith healers, and woo pushers are all the same, and I have responded to all of them in the same way. There is no difference in the arena.

I just find the irony interesting. The black community, for the most part, adores T.D. Jake's, Creflo Dollar and others. I lived in the hood. I often heard them being blared through living room windows. My aunt is black. She regularly shares their "inspirational" quotes. From what I've seen and experienced, the black community rarely calls out televangelists for their BS and the white community, as multiple comments have evidenced, don't know these other snake oil salesmen exist.

I have never heard of those folks. Thanks for the info.

I used to live in Reverend Ike's building, and later, I lived not far from his "church." I had no end of ridicule for this guy.

I've talked about Creflo and his airplane. I've also talked about him beating his daughter and calling it godly discipline.

What the fuck?????

It is hard to accuse those you don't know about. That's reality and they are just as bad.

@Melbates A Fool, is a Fool, is a Fool regardless of Race or Culture.

Never see color when looking at ideology. Idiots come in all sizes and shapes. They come in all species categories.

@Melbates is the protection of the black community attitude that allowed a disruptive and destructive "gangsta rap" under a "for Real label". They look the other way and simply keep it to themselves even when they know the truth they won't share it with the white devil.

@GipsyOfNewSpain Again, I do not view it as race, it is a lousy alternative to the real issue which is underfunding of real issues. The black church that was mass murdered ended when the parishioners forgave and one could see the real peace in their heart. I see so many people paying for prayer.

I was driving home early Sunday morning through Bakersfield
Listening to gospel music on the colored radio station
And the preacher said, you know you always have the Lord by your side
And I was so pleased to be informed of this that I ran
Twenty red lights in his honor
Thank you Jesus, thank you Lord

......................

Well the preacher kept right on saying that all I had to do was send
Ten dollars to the church of the Sacred Bleeding Heart Of Jesus
Located somewhere in Los Angeles, California
And next week they'd say my prayer on the radio
And all my dreams would come true
So I did, the next week, I got a prayer with a girl
Well, you know what kind of eyes she got, well I'll tell ya

I've watched a couple of videos about christian preachers in Africa that live like kings. They have megachurches with tons of money coming in. Very controlling of their congregations. In fact, I could be wrong, but I believe there are a number of them over there that are richer than some of the american preachers.

The two you mentioned are not household names like Osteen and Billy Graham, so when the topic comes up people use the names that are easily recognized.

Not household namesi n white households. Exactly my point. I have an aunt who's black. Constantly shares T.D. Jake's on her Facebook.

@ Mel Bates, I'm an atheist I don't watch any of the religious channels Graham Falwell and Osteen all are old time hucksters that appear in my newsfeed on almost a daily basis because of the stupid shit they say, you couldn't pay me enough to watch any of these con men no matter the color of their skin

@slinkie59 but, that's the point. You've heard of them but haven't heard of the black televangelists. There's just so much irony.

If T D Jakes 'gets a pass', then I suspect it's largely 'good fortune' on his part - and perhaps him being less 'in the public eye'.

I doubt it's to do with the colour of his skin.

He's definitely in the public eye among the black community which is my point. White's don't call him out on his bullshit because they're not paying attention. My aunt is black. She praises T.D. Jake's.

@SteveB Thus, my point is proven.

Never heard of them.

Exactly my point.
