Many female friends ask me if posting personal photos is good to increase your chances of dating and what are the advices I would give, as an expert in the neuroscience of the dating behavior. Yes, they are ultra-important, we are visual animals! No chances at all without at least one personal photo.

Regarding advice, here it goes:

  1. No sunglasses at all. Better still, no glasses at all. And no hats, any kind, particularly a baseball cap!
  2. Show your eyes looking directly at the camera.
  3. Always a discrete smile, a happiness smile
  4. Framing: do not show only your face. A midplane (from the navel up) to show part of your body is ok. NEVER: a shot from a distance, with a small, hard to distinguish face.
  5. Don't post a photo together with another person: it might be difficult to say who are you.
  6. Never, ever, post a photo with a man, particularly an ex! Not even a son, cousin, colleague, etc. Might communicate a wrong message
  7. Please, no aninals with you (cats, dogs, reptiles, birds, etc.)
  8. Use a pleasant and neutral background. After all, you want to show something eles. Focus on you.
  9. Don't post ancient photos of you. Always recent ones, please
  10. Use some makeup. No shining skin. Do not exagerate. Please comb your hair to perfection.
  11. No sensual photos, with excess decoletage, too showy legs and feet. Again, men are stupid enough to think that you are "easy"
  12. Excellent colors, illumination, contrast. No shadows in parts of your face. Use a professionally taken photo, if possible. No black-and-white or processed photos with funny edits (like wearing a cat's nose).
  13. Improving a little bit your photo using Photoshop or portrait-improvement sites is ok, but don't do it too much. No animation (such as Boomerang), videos, or comics photos;
  14. Earrings and necklaces are ok, as long as they are not oversized or too exuberant. Must be beautiful.
  15. Wear a beautiful but discrete dress. The simple black dress always it's a win. Or with the color you look best.

A perfect example of all this: Elizabeth Taylor. Classy, beautiful portrait!

In addition, try to post different photos, in different angles (your best angles, including full body pictures).

Pretty sure I wouldn't be interested in a man that picky. A woman could lose herself entirely trying to please that man.

Or, if you live in Brazil, you could just go to your local body shop and make a few adjustments before you bother getting in front of a camera.

Bwahahaha! Yikes!

Not quite the reaction you were looking for, was it, sparky?

You should chisel these rules into a billboard sized stone tablet. I recommend marble. You should then smash that stone tablet into sharp shards of about the size of bricks with a sledge hammer. Finally, you should shove those sharp stone shards, the chisel, and the sledge hammer straight up your pompous ass.

Now, fuck off!

This is gross. Really. Who do you purport to be proffering your own personal ideals as a template for all? Gross.

Well see he's an ...expert in the neuroscience of the dating behavior, and from the rest of his post seems to be looking for women to post pics he can wank over.

Or, and this could be even worse, he's a self importaint asshole that thinks what he likes/wants is what all the rest of us little folks should like/want, so here's how to do it.

3 in at least one picture and 5 if it is the only picture. As for the rest, present yourself however you wish to present yourself.

Elizabeth Taylor will always be my heartthrob

In this photo I can see the look Michael Jackson was shooting for. Wow!

@itsmedammit Holy cow, you're right! Now I'm creeped out by both the picture and the guy who posted it.

Good grief -- that's a glamor shot. It would be grossly out of place on a dating site. And would probably reflect trying too hard.

Aside from that, most of us aren't members of the Beautiful People so holding up Liz Taylor as a standard is pretty depressing (and objectifying, really).

I would simply post a truly current and nicely composed candid shot and let the chips fall where they may. And if I were seriously into, say, my dog or cat, having them in the shot might be a good filter to avoid waisting time with people who have pet allergies or who hate animals. Yes, it's limiting, but it's a limit you probably really want in that situation.

Dude. I really feel bad for you.
