I'm unsure as whether or not this subject has been brought up on this Site before or not, but here goes any way.
There is a rather elderly Jewish Gentleman living a few streets away from my home, he often walks past my house and if I happen to out in the front gardens we will always stop and have a chat after I've invited him in to sit down for a spell.
About an hour or so ago, I noticed him walking past in the 41 degree Celsius heat, looking very very hot, tired and stressed so I invited him in to rest a while under my Evaporative Cooler and have a drink of nice, fresh, cool water in one of those mug-type vessels that can be kept in the freezer so they stay very cold ( they have some kind of solution in between the outside and inside that freezes btw).
As he was walking towards my door my Evangelist neighbor yelled across the dividing fence " You're not letting the Hebrew Christ Killer in to your house are you, filth like that don't deserve any kindness or pity."
Isaac, I think that is his name but it sounds more like Itzak when he says it) turned to walk away until I stopped him and held out my hand in welcome.
Now the crux/point I'm trying to get across is this,

  1. Do not these Christians pray to and believe in exactly the same God as have the Jews/Hebrews.
  2. Was not their basic religion created from the same 5 books of the Hebrew Torah,
  3. Was it not the Romans under the Governor, Pontius Pilate who crucified this Jesus, self-proclaimed Son of God,
  4. And, did NOT their version of Christianity arise from the Church of Rome, aka, the Holy ROMAN Catholic Church in the first place and if so, why are they so seemingly Pro everything Roman Catholic based in their religions origin and so anti-Hebrew?
    Btw, Isaac and I had a nice and interesting discussion re- religion versus Atheism/Agnosticism and on numerous points he agreed that we, the Atheists/Agnostics, do have a great deal of very interesting and salient points that make more rational sense than does either 3 of the main Abrahamic religions put together and he now knows that he is more than welcome at my house as a friend any time.

Right now we're having a huge problem in the U.S. with antisemitic attacks on Jews. [washingtonpost.com]

....horrible to witness HATE, first hand. And I applaud
your efforts.(there are places here in America- which I could NOT LIVE), because hate is accepted/ and I would blow a gasket. I see ALL freedoms lessened when this occurs,and
would have to react.Your follow up is inspiring.
Thanks

I think what you are describing is a common thing these days; many so-called "Christians" are not really Christian at all. If by "Christian" is meant following the teachings of Jesus. I read Matthew, Mark, Luke & John a couple of times recently and now have a decent grounding in what Christian teachings actually are (although I am not a religious believer myself). There is some good stuff in there even though some of it is muddled up with stuff about god. Your neighbor is showing how totally un-Christian so many evangelicals are. And whether you yourself are agnostic, atheistic or otherwise, your behavior is more "Christian" than your neighbor's is, by which I mean you are following more of the Christian teachings than your neighbor whether or not you believe any of the deity stuff.

Your neighbor needs a home visit from Social Services to determine if he is mentally fit to live unassisted. Call the non-911 police number and ask for one, explaining he is acting erratically.

He has already had an assessment, had 3 weeks in a Psychiatric Hospital and was released to come home after that.

@Triphid keep documenting & calling, eventually his family will be forced to take action! Does he have guns?

@AnneWimsey No. to own a gun in Australia you need to have a legitimate reason for owning one in the first place, then you need to show that you are able and proficient in Firearm Safety to own and use one, then you have to have both a Criminal Records check down by the Police WHICH often includes a check on IF you have any Psychiatric Problems that have been diagnosed and treated professionally and you MUST have either a Licensed Shooting Club and Range where you intent to go to shoot OR a written permission from a Farming Property Owner where you can shoot plus a secured, safe and lockable storage cabinet for your firearm.

@Triphid sounds civilized, and must be a great relief to you. I had a neighbor who went from being a friend we looked out for to bat-shit crazy, after I called the police on her weirdness 3 times they got her family to get her into assisted living, which she greatly needed by then. Keep reporting, take video if you can....he actually needs help!

Most contemporary christians, pseudo-christians, don't bear any resemblance to the gospel they supposedly practice.

Tell your fundy neighbor to blow it out his ass......

Your neighbor sounds like quite an, um, asshole. IMHO. Lacking empathy and kindness, to put it another way.
I’m thinking you’re basically right about the history of religions but there are many here more learned than me.
My point is: we’re all HUMAN. Except maybe that neighbor😬😬😬

Sorry but I think you are being way to kind by simply calling him "an asshole," I can think of countless better descriptive words that would apply perfectly to him BUT considering there are ladies present I refrain from using them here.

Individual Christians hold all sorts of logically inconsistent and mutually exclusive views.

Most modern evangelicals hold a sort of schizophrenic position that the Jews are still god's chosen people and Israel must be politically supported no matter what atrocities they commit for example on the Palestinians, or you're an anti-semite (perversely, even if you're Jewish). While at the same time saying that individual Jews who don't convert to Christianity will still burn in hell. This has less to do than what they really think of Jews than it does with their desire to fulfill their death cult beliefs by hastening the rapture and other end-time events centered in Israel -- and not to piss of god by overtly opposing his "chosen people" who, they believe, will ultimately "see the light" if you will.

What you encountered was more of a white nationalist / neo-Nazi / xenophobic thing that leaks out around the edges of that. I don't think it's something that run of the mill fundies in the US would support, except maybe in the deep South. I don't know how that plays out down under though.

As a Southerner, you’re right. It’s exactly like that...though many are blind followers of what they are taught rather than having the education to back it up. Those with knowledge become agnostics!

Your neighbor deserved to be flipped off immediately and informed that your house, your guest list, and to keep thier zombie worshipping ass out of your business unless they want you in thiers.

Personally, I'd have gone on the offensive immediately - but rather than the whole "same God/Torah/Romans" argument I'd have got straight to the point and told my evangelical neighbour there and then that he's an antisemitic asshole who ought to feel ashamed of holding such views. I'd have followed up with a letter to the neighbour explaing why Isaac would always be welcome in my home, and why he - the neighbour - never would be.

Jnei Level 8 Dec 27, 2019

Under normal circumstances I would have "gone on the offensive" but Isaac was patently becoming quite stressed out and very emotionally upset so instead I continued to usher him into my house.
though I have put a terse letter in the mailbox of that Evangeloon's house informing him of my intent to e-mail a record of his outrageous behavior and blatant racist remarks to the Anti-Discrimination Board in N.S.W. on Isaac's behalf and mine.

@Triphid A very good response. Also: "evangeloon" - I like that 🙂

@Jnei I also like that phrase!!!

The thing these morons forget is without the crucifixion/resurrection they would have no "Christianity". They should be thanking those folks. FUCKING idiots!

You read my mind. I was trying to be nice, like a good Southern girl, lol.

@CarolinaGirl60 Good for you. Sometimes I wish I had a better filter, but I don't. 🙂

@CarolinaGirl60 bhg, humbug!

and without the resurrection, they would be a Jordan Peterson type christian. (he makes my head hurt).

@Sticks48 Nah, we prefer you with no filter Sticks. Passion, controversy and colourful language all the way!

@MsDemeanour That is very nice of you to say that. 🙂

christ! I didn't know Broken Hill was in USA. I never heard of such blatant discrimination except when it's me, tossing out the door knockers at my own front door (apart from when I see it on the telly)/

Anyway, I have to say I watched Life of Brian more than once or twice and I believe I can tell you what happened 2000 odd yrs ago. There was some feast day when Jesus was arrested, and because it was a special occasion Pontius Pilate said the jewish people could pardon one of the prisoners and let him go free. Instead of choosing jebus, they chose to release a murderer. And this is the reason that christians have hated jews all this time. They blame them for killing their guru, despite the fact that jebus said he had no choice and had to go to the cross and pop down to the hot place to be tortured for our sins. All makes sense now, doesn't it?!!

Life Of Brian rocks! I own it on dvd and watch it when I am feeling depressed...

Hey, not ALL of Broken Hill as totally dumb, stupid, etc, as he is, the majority of us Hillites are just normal everyday average and friendly people but that dipshit of a neighbor actually migrated ( more likely exported or deported imo) here from the east coast of N.S.W.

@Triphid Never doubted it for a minute! And if I had debt collectors or the police after me, the middle of a desert is the exact place I'd race off to. Praps the heat has got to your neighbour. 😀 Am I too harsh?

@MsDemeanour Nope, definitely not the heat since he is exactly the same type of obnoxious creature no matter what season it is.
