So, I've recently discovered that drinking Moscato (one glass about every other day) is more effective at treating my depression & anxiety than anything else that I've tried over the years & one google search later, I've found evidence supporting that it's not a placebo effect. Thought I'd share. [sciencedaily.com] [medicalnewstoday.com] [winespectator.com]depression-51889
It doesn't need to be found in wine: [en.wikipedia.org]
Alcohol is a CNS depressant so frankly I wouldn't go with Alcohol as a way to improve mood. I suspect Concord grape juice would have much the same benefit. (And probably be cheaper).
Examples "Sources of resveratrol in food include the skin of grapes, blueberries, raspberries, mulberries, and peanuts.".
If you need a recipe for Blueberry topping for pancakes or jam - I have a great one....
I've tried those, as well as other types of red wine. I'm assuming it's something in the red Moscato cultivars used to produce this particular wine. (I'm not assuming the resveratrol is acting alone here.) If the particular grapes were available, I would give that a try. I just thought the recent research was interesting & wanted to share.
@Nunya Hey anecdotal evidence is nothing to sneer at. I can't add liquor to my regimen so I always suggest alternatives. There's a lot of new research going on in depression right now.
Treatment directly targeting the brain with magnetic pulses, and also treatment using psilocybin and ketamine (at low dose) are now being tried.
It's fascinating stuff.
@RavenCT Yes, I read all about that sort of stuff. I've been pondering whether or not to try to get into a Psilocybin or LSD trial; I've just never been a fan of psychedelics. They kinda' freak me out. lol I'm wondering what your opinion is of the Fisher Wallace Stimulator? www.fisherwallace.com - in case you're unfamiliar with this particular device.
Wine can be mellow and delicious. A small glass is okay on special occasions.
At my age it causes poor sleep and fatigue the next day.
Older people benefit much more from grapes than wine.
Well, the cultivars to try would include Moscato Rosa, Rosenmuskateller, and Muscat Hamburg. These are not readily available in my area, but perhaps I could try growing some this year.
@Nunya Thanks ... I will consider those cultivars good for me to sample.
Too bad my body can't process alcohol. Might be worth a try otherwise.
According to the article, resveratrol is believed to be the active component; however, processed resveratrol extracts don't seem to work. This is likely because other components of the grape are also at play. So, eat wine grapes. See if it works.
