Glad you posted this. I never heard the term applied to American music of this type, Usually we called it "Jug Band". See "Mitch Greenhill, Dave Van Ronk, Jim Kweskin and many more. But Skiffle, to me was always associated with British and was probably big in "Music Hall" days. The Beatles and other British Invasion groups started with Skiffle!
