Cat, I quit C’cism in 1957. and would have written, “Say what you will, Catholics can party!” I’m 89 and a man I know who’s 90 is still trying to quit. He once told me “Once a Catholic always a Catholic.” I replied “Once a Catholic always helpless.” Both are true of him, and I still know the feeling.

It's easy to have a good time at Mardi Gras, Catholic or not 😊😋

But Catholics have been made slaves. “Apostate” is from old Greek for “runaway slave”.

@yvilletom huh?

@Cutiebeauty Yep. Some of the nuns really disliked people quitting the church and called them apostates. The OED says it means runaway slave. R U 1 ?

Did the real MG in 1975. Won't go there again.

Please share your thinking, and feeling, on your MG experience.

I have many Catholic friends, Irish, Italian, French, Hispanic and more. One thing they seem to share is a love, if not lust, for a good celebration. And while my Catholic friends of Irish descent may be willing to give up something for Lent, they won't allow it to impact Saint Patrick's Day! Don't really care what they believe, so long as they enjoy a good time! Sláinte!

...if drunk enough to not feel guilty.

Our Mardi Gras celebration is just about to get started at the lounge a short walk from my place. I usually go - lots of fun - but I'm skipping it this year.

Was hoping to hear about some atheists enjoying Mardi Gras tonight! Even though I'm a recovering Catholic, no longer giving up anything I enjoy for lent, I still enjoy partying with those who are!

Here in Hawaii, the big thing is Malasadas... They are Portuguese donuts, served hot out of the fryer, and sprinkled with sugar. Every baker on the island has them for Fat Tuesday and they sell out by 10am. Yum!
