How will the advent of self-driving cars change your life or the lives of others? Will it have an impact on you personally? Will you embrace the technology or cling to that stick-shift!
There are obvious challenges to it. There have already been a couple of deaths and crashes because of self driving cars.

Are you kidding? I can hardly wait. I realize that it could be hacked, but if not, I would rather program my destination, then sit back and read a book. At my age, I don't want to be driving at night anyway.

Once they've reached the point where they no longer require a qualified driver behind the wheel to take control should doing so become necessary, they'll have a huge impact on my life as I've never learned to drive. Since it's likely that they'll dramatically reduce private car ownership, they'll ultimately have a huge and beneficial effect for the entire world too.

like many things, it's a double-edged sword or even all things. no more drink driving and no more crashes but even more fucked if you break down and no fun at all. banger racing will be called driving around a track sensibly.
I for one welcome our computer overlords! I'm 64 and I am tired of driving on roads that are crammed with people who are over tired from working two jobs or stressed out. Yes it will change things, think of the carriage makers when cars came out. Many changes will need to happen before we see driverless cars. For one and the biggest is income, we need to equalize the income so that we, as a society can move forward and not have a mulri level society.

Legally they have to have someone in the driver's seat at the mo so don't panic yet
@SimonMorgan1 Oh, it'll be a few years at least. It's not like I'll be out of a job next week. But I'm largely trapped in this job due to the circumstances, so it's still a little unnerving.
As I am legally blind, and have not driven a car since i was 29, an dam no 55, I think it would be great to be able to be readily mobile again.
I had read that they were not planning to require a driver's license to operate one, but with that pedestrain fatality a few weeks ago, they may decide to require one after all... even though it was the pedestrain's fault and the "safety driver" in the test car said even if he were at the wheel there would have been no wy to avoid it.
So, driverless cars have th potential to change mylife drastically for the better. It is just a question of will they allow it.

@David_Cooper It has occured to me that this can kind of kill Nascar. But then I see that as a positive thing.
As for human drivers... I think they will keep them, but if driverless technology is available, i think they shoudl greatly increase teh requirements for a driver's license as a matter of public saftety.
In Japan, most American driver's would not qualify for a license to drive a cr, as it is rely difficult to qualify for a driver's license there. Of course they have great mass transit alternatives, which is how they can do that without a negative economic impact.
