Has anyone else noticed that religion is portrayed as truth and real history on most TV channels.Look at the history channel.

Yes, religion is a culturally supported delusion, in my words, and is treated with the utmost respect, as reality. I'm sure that was the case when the ancient Greeks and Romans were flourishing. It was, simply, an embeded, if you will, part of how they viewed reality. this is ubiquitous, I'm sure. In 3,000 years from now, if there is still some form of civilization, our culture's stories will be viewed s we look at the stories of Zeus, Poseidon, etc. The Gilgamesh myths of ancient Persia are read for simple pleasure now.

Old saying yesterdays religions are todays mythology and todays religions are tomorrows mythology.

Are you sure it's not in an academic way? In other words, nobody would argue that religion exists, or that the concept of "God" exists, so they can be discussed objectively. I can't imagine that a secular broadcast would acknowledge the absolute existence of a particular religion.

i do notice "eternal" being conflated with "forever" quite a bit; all the time, actually. Like, not a day goes by hardly?

@bbyrd009 You live in the South, don't you! I rest my case.

You need to look more.

@fishline79 ? i live in Aspen, and the movies come out of Hollywood, i guess

@bbyrd009 Sorry. Your Bio says Florida. Perhaps that influenced your outlook.

@fishline79 ah ty ill havta change that. Hated FL with a passion tbh, parents were there. And my outlook would not be affecting me hearing "eternal" conflated with "forever" anyway, would it?

@bbyrd009 Sorry. I guess I'm too old to understand your vernacular. I'll admit I shouldn't have responded to your post because I also don't get the point you are trying to make with "eternal" and "forever". The point I'm trying to make about where you grew up, is that I don't notice that "conflation" where I live (PA).

@fishline79 hmm i gotta believe everyone gets the same netflix pretty much? "Eternal" is conflated with "forever" rather than aeon, "a space of time, an age"

@fishline79 um but i did also just see the first instance im aware of of naive dialectic in a major hollywood movie, things are lookin up! lol
jumanji 2

"of of" is fairly hard, but i got an "and, and and" in once
😀
im on drugs

@bbyrd009 ?

@fishline79 um, we are brought up with hegelian dialectic, the Bible is written in the naive? Or a hybrid anyway, freaky; you cannot state a single Absolute Truth from the Bible why am i telling you this lol

@bbyrd009 I don't have netflix. If you want to know my taste in movies you can check out my Facebook page, "Great Scenes (Why I used to love movies)

@bbyrd009 Donno, I guess because you think I'm a clueless dolt, or just "naive".

fascism is a religion too i guess

Lawrence Britt wrote about the 14 early warning signs of fascism. One is that religion and government are intertwined.

No, it's an abomination!

@fishline79 ha well, so is religion, as the Bible makes very plain imo. The NT is a record of the failure of a theocracy, after all?

These are my "Comparisons of Religion and Fascism"
Both have one supreme leader...Both attempt to convince and convert unwilling non-adherents...Both are didactic and reactionary...Both demand complete adherence to doctrine...Both are incompatible with Democracy...Both have a militaristic hierarchy...Both make extensive use of propaganda and lies...Both employ symbolism...Both demand unquestioning obedience...Both employ oaths and ritual practices...Both expect of their adherents that which they themselves eschew...Both resist reform...Both appeal largely to the least educated (with the exception of their leaders)...

@fishline79 plenty of warning in the Bible about them

Yep. They do give Christianity a lot of unearned credibility.

Yes
Most TV is pure propaganda.
Much TV is partly propaganda
advertisement industry has used media as their personal sales pitch, which is propaganda really, forever.

As a Boy my mother repeatedly told me "Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear." as applied to all media, books, TV, Radio . . .it has only become more valuable advice in this digital world.

Yeah, why do Atheist use the Bible as a historic reference?
When you show me the birth place of civilization, you show me Iraq, aka the Bible. When I show you the birth place of civilization, I show you India.

Both are right, civilisation (for want of a better world) as we would recognise it originated at around the same time in a number major centres
Sumer, predynastic Egypt, Norte Chico, Ancient China and the Indus Valley all emerged roughly about 4000 bce
However there is evidence of Mesopotamian agrarian civilisations as early 10,000 Bce and the aborigines of Australia have signs of nomadic civilisation going back to 75,000 Bce

I have read that some archeologist believe China is where human began.

@kiramea there were many varied races of the homo erectus. The proto human Yuanmou Man was the first known in China this is true, they existed pretty much contemporaneously with Homo habilis in the west from about 2,000,000 BCe, and like their western cousins were overthrown and interbreed with by a cousin (Peking man) of what in north africa would become the Cro Magnon Homo erectus, the most successful human species and (after interbreeding with and assimilating all of the other hominids) the primary ancestor of the modern human.

Atheists sometimes use rhe bible as a frame of reference to talk to the religious in order to be heard at all (for example, to an extremely religious christian, i would have two words to say about trump: "golden calf." there is no point in using that frame in a scientific or historical documentary, though. Perhaps those who do so mistakenly perceive their audience as the deeply religious. They need to be set straight.
