In 2002, Johnny Cash covered "Hurt" to commercial and critical acclaim; it was one of Cash's final hits released before his death, and the related music video is considered one of the greatest of all time by publications such as NME. Reznor praised Cash's interpretation of the song for its "sincerity and meaning", going as far as to say "that song isn't mine anymore."

I just found johnny Cash's version after listening to Danny Bhoy, the Scottish comedian talking about the reaction of a fan. Boyd had stated in his performance that this was a Johnny Cash song. The fan corrected him in week-long posts on FB and Twitter and so on that it was Trent Reznor from 9INails who wrote that sone.
So I had to go and find the song, both the original version and Johnny Cash's performance. How depressing!
It makes me want to slap both of them.
But I do like the cross-reference from music to comedy back to music.

@Spinliesel good google-fu 😮
