I just discovered that one of my old student's mother has a career, now, as an evidential medium. Boy, what fucking bullshit. Her, now ex, husband is a science prof and she was a professor of sociology. I had never heard of evidential medium, but it is the same shit with a fancy name.

An evidential medium is an individual that is able to communicate information from the spirit that can be verified unequivocally. The information passed from the evidential medium will be of such a high caliber that there will be no doubt as to its validity. Another point to note is that the evidence may be required to be verified after much research from another avenue or party. This would take away any doubt of the information being known before hand.

My poor past student was smart and I am now pondering how she is responding. Hopefully her mother will bilk enough stupid people to leave a good inheritance.

Evidential medium sounds like an oxymoron to me, like military intelligence, scientific christian etc. But I suppose for every fool there is a con to take advantage of them

Everyone needs something to be deeply into! Who knows she could be on point, 50% of the time! I think there are people that go beyond the normal and their ā€˜giftā€™ cannot be 100% verified, but then there are ā€˜the others!ā€™ Even I sometimes know things and I have no idea how!

I think that I must have misunderstood what an evidential medium is.

If any statement by such can be verified unequivocally, wouldn't we also call that "stating the obvious"? What am I missing here?

Is this like how "psychics" might try to impress me by telling me stuff I already know?
