My Mom is wonderful. She is a devout Christian, knows my beliefs and never ever pushes it on me. She supports me in everything.

I have absolutely no problem with that sort of religious belief. "Live and let live" is a solid life philosophy. Your mom sounds like a wonderful person.

Cherish her!

I am truly happy for you.

I like to say my mom is a Christian but she's not a bitch about it. She has never used her religious beliefs as a hate tool and she accepts my non-belief.

You're lucky. My dad has become a brainwashed right wing methodist and worries that I won't see him again on the other side of the rainbow bridge...

Some mom's get it right. ?

My parents, both alive "thank god", are the same way. My dad is the most religious person you could meet... goes to church every day... yet you wouldn't know it just by meeting him since his beliefs are his. He is happy to talk about them but he is not intent on converting you to them.

In fact, his religious beliefs are exactly why I became a physicist. From a young age, he would challenge me with questions of how the universe started. They were phrased as actual questioning as if he wanted to know but there was a subtle subtext of god being the answer. At first, this lead me to be a theist for, yeah, sure, god made everything. Then I started questioning religion, got into physics, and became an atheist, yeah, sure, physics can answer everything. Then I started quesitoning physics, got into life, and became an agnostic, yeah, sure neither physics nor religion can answer everything.

Very happy to know there are others like my parents out there. On this board you walk away with the impression that all religous parents are insufferable evangelists. But that is not the case for me. That is not the case for you. And I always wonder who there are more of: parents like ours or parents like theirs?

I am sure that is not the case for many religious parents. Whether it is the norm or exception, I have no idea.

You're very fortunate in that your mom is awesome and still here. Give her a hug today and thank her for being a fabulous mom. And seriously, you might think you tell her, and she "knows" what you think, but having you say it will make her day.

Good for her! And, good for you!

That is how it supposed to work.
