I spend so much time licking the bottom of my shoes! 
Given that in many societies where the virus is still spreading taking your shoes off at the door is common practice, it would seem to not make a huge difference.

When I went to have a tooth pulled yesterday I was given paper shoes to put over my feet before entering dental office.
