Tomorrow ends our first four weeks of togetherness. I have learned so much. Lia, who is 10 going on annoying teenagers will sit at my laptop presenting a complete monologue. Ever so often, I stop in the middle of whatever and say: "who are you talking to?", worrying about pedophiles and stalkers.
" I am talking to myself," she says, without looking up.
"What are you playing?" I ask.
"Roblox, " she says.
It is a game where she designs and builds her own environment, house, apartment, etc.
The amazing this is that she sounds like a 17-year old in conversation with another 17 year old. Distinct voices. distinct opinions.
Schizophrenia? I am feeling pangs of guilt. Too much LSD; too many magic mushrooms? Lia is such a sweet, shy ten-year-old.

We have another four weeks of all-day togetherness to go. Should I tell her mother? For now, I will try not to be too observant. I think she should sign up for a drama club when school starts up again.

I am confused at to what you are worried about. That you think she is not social enough? Or you think she is an introvert? Or perhaps worried she has no friends? I see nothing wrong with this situation.

Her mom ( my daughter) just picked her up. We discussed the Theater productions here. Jenn totally agrees and will enroll her in drama class when she is in 6th grade. her dad, a part-time actor, has already provided her with a book on the theater arts and a DVD. I think we have to step back now and see what develops.

I find it difficult at times to let my kids be themselves.

It's cool though that you realize how important it is.

Drama for her is a great idea, but meanwhile, noise canceling earphones for you.

I had the same idea, so I got some wireless headphones. Lia wears them all the time.

@Spinliesel Funny. After making my post to you, I thought of how much more I'm talking to myself and my cute little doggie. It's really unnerving when I have my voice to text feature turned on by accident and I have to see what I said!
