What if a vaccine is not able to be developed for COVID 19?

Given the R0 for this virus is between 2 and 2.5.... Well.... The majority of the world would just get it eventually.

Unfortunately, that might actually be what it will take for us to wake up and change our ways.
On front line( pbs ) they said it mutated 3 times in a month.
This means our vaccine will have to be ONGOING.The different strains are the focal point. They stated it went to
pets the infected person had.I wasn't evan looking at person to animal TRANSMITION ,,,I am glad the experts have a handle on it. It is IMPRESSIVE that to ignore nature's boundaries quite easily could be our demise .
We should not stumble blindly toward the future- when our streangths lie in applying the knowledge we have garnered
from hard won expierences. I lost 2 aquantainces.Burying our heads(or buying a space suit) is not a realistic option for
individuals OR humanity.
The hi.an race has survived severe "culling" in the past, it likely will again. We already know that many people survive cv2 infection with little to no symptoms. No reason to think whatever innate biological features are protecting those people, won't persist in their offspring.
We will survive like the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918 it will be costly
The 'Spanish Flu' simply ceased and, from what I have read, many experts don't know why. Maybe it was just a warning shot over the bow. This has hit our engine room.
@JackPedigo Like the metaphor.
@Fernapple Thank you. Sometimes I surprise even myself.
There’s nothing to be gained by fearing the unknown. I suspect that the virus will mutate and split into numerous strains. Strains that kill their hosts will gradually disappear. Meanwhile most people will develop at least partial immunity. At some point everyone will have been exposed and Coronavirus will hardly be noticed. People of the future will look back with amusement at the worlds overreaction back in 2020 to Coronavirus.
In the immediate future look for a decrease in overall deaths. A lot of vulnerable people will have already died. It’s ok to die BTW.
Not necessarily fear mongering. There ARE other corona viruses (in veterinary medicine) for which there is no safe vaccine as any vaccination immune response potentiates the already severe symptoms, much like happens with RSV in humans. You are right, though. The human population won't remain immunologically naive forever. Also, the medical community will likely figure out how to minimize the more severe symptoms clinically (meds, equipment, etc) in time.
Follow the treatment for AIDs.... ‘cocktails of medication’ will likely come forth ..in time, to ward off the most serious symptoms ..within our most vulnerable patients. There may never be a vaccine, so we’ll continue to lose our least fit…
Well said and reason to hope.
