Why do Americans celebrate Thanksgiving when they know full well that after the first 'Thanksgiving' their predecessors just went out and set about slaughtering and stealing the lands, cultures and lives of the very people who saved them from starvation in the first place?

For all the food. Otherwise I just think they don't care or they have believed what they have been told for years

How many of us think of history when we celebrate holidays? They’re just good excuses to get together with friends and family, eat good food and catch up on goings on. My family all had a very good time today.

There’s never been a nation that didn’t rise from the murder of others. Of our crimes this was probably the most understandable. It wasn’t like Pilgrims could just get back on their ship and go back home.
Incidentally, I’ve been to First Beach, on Cape Cod, and Plymouth. Very moving.
I like the day as a good reason for good friends and food. My family is dead so wherever I go is by invitation and choice. Not a bad thing to feel thankful once in a while, either.

I think people like traditions. Thanksgiving today is more for being thankful for family and gives an excuse to get together. There is enough negativity in the world we need a national day of thanks.

Force of habit. It's the same reason black people continue generation to generation to attend the religious institutions of the people who enslaved them.

Lest than half of American born citizens are of English descent. Most American citizens' ancestors immigrated here after the American revolution.

Damned if I know.

History in general seems to have been "cleaned up" along the way, to lessen any negative actions on the part of the US. Like we never do anything bad to anyone else ... right.
