Ha, ha, ha, ha. As @barjoe said below, National Conventions aren't as as attractive to cities as they might once have been.

Additional: I also saw a speculation somewhere else that this might just be another grift. They were saying -- wait for it, tRump will book it at one of his hotels so he'll be able to charge for it.

That could be the case for the Democratic National Convention as well. The logistics could make it so a host city wouldn't be able to take on a major convention for either party.

@Gatovicolo The DNC has larger delegation so it would be even more challenging than GOP.
