The cult of trump, how he got to the WH, the problem of systemic racism, and perhaps the end of America will be analyzed and keep many busy for years to come.
I have a twin sister who voted for trump, thinks the gop party is great and finally, yes, believes in God. Only recently has she begun to question whether trump is a problem. Her news sources are fox and oann.
I distanced myself from family when I was 20. It's not easy to watch people try to defend the horrible.

Perhaps he really is the Christ and he is going to take those who support him for the Rapture. Yea cheeto!

Antichrist, please

@Philip21 Sorry, I get stuff wrong every once in a while.

I've considered Trumpism a cult since near the beginning. It incorporates white grievance racism, right wing moralistic anti modernist Christian evangelism, and US oligarchic fascism -- a dangerous cocktail, with crossover of classes and grievances and religion and ideology. I predict it will not end well, or worse remain a toxic cancer in US society.

Yes, your explaination sounds so much better than a bunch of fookin' idjots.
Have to admit I read the first sentence of the post and thought, "Um, some bright news to start the day, how is that a bad thing if they off themselves". It always ends badly, I realize this but my dark humor keeps me going sometimes. We look at and analyze the shit outta trump and his followers but the toll on us "normals" is in some cases very high.

It's a little dated, April 16th in this fast moving news cycle driven world. But lots of interesting parallels.

Saw Steven Hassan today speak in Aetheist Meetup from NYC just today. He's mentioned in article. Fascinating speaker.

With any luck, they will come to the same end.

But cults tend to end badly, that's the problem.

@David1955 A Jim Jones ending would be a good ending as far as I am concerned. They are a direct threat to others. If they want to meet up, hang out, and kill each other, that is fine with me. I have no empathy for these people.

@Sticks48 given the size of Trump's cult base, that would mean death on the level of genocide. Though I know you were taking poetic licence, the history of cults shows that most followers eventually move on, but a hard core rump remain and forever, their brains permanently corrupted. Take a crude case study like the Manson Cult, a cult of about 100 people. About 10 to 20 were criminally dangerous in their loyalty to Manson. Even now, 50 years later, there is a hand full of them who still burn a candle for Manson, hanging together, living in their minds the glory days, and Manson is dead and all the murders known. Crude analysis, but that's about 10-20% core cult followers (excluding young followers attracted to his hate message). Take that percentage of Trump Cultists, and that is still a lot of people, and a dangerous power block. That's my concern. They won't die, just fester.

@David1955 I really believe without a leader, they will slowly go back to where they were before. I don't think Trump will stay that involved with those folks once he is out of office and I don't see anyone there to fill the void.

@Sticks48 Well I see Trump as a front man for dark forces who put him there -- the Steve Bannon's of America. I don't see them going anywhere, and they have a political culture and base whose grievances they know how to exploit. We will see. Should the Trump period be rejected thoroughly, electorally, then there may be some hope.

@David1955 Unless he can make money off of them he doesn't care about those yahoos. He is going to have his hands full with legal problems from 3 or 4 directions and his businesses are not doing well. They only served his purpose as voters. Other than that he doesn't need them. He doesn't like the job, so wants he is out of it I don't think he will have any interest in politics.

@Sticks48 I don't think I made my point well. Bannon and co will move onto the next Trump. It's not Trump, but Trumpism at play here. Trumps legal problems will only endear him to his followers as a tortured hero, meanwhile the Bannons will be looking for the next right wing racist oligarchist populist candidate to exploit white underclass grievance.

@David1955 That won't be easy. The perfect storm put him there. It will take someone with a bigger than life personality like Rumps. What they probably will do is keep the Republicans a mess. As weird as it has been since 16, who knows. Anything could happen.

@David1955 trump does not exist in a vaccum - he got into the WH with help and while many of his supporters-his base-have no positions of power trump has many people in pwer that are taking full advantage of this crisis.

I always gathered that Evangelicals are an apocalyptic death-cult.
And since Covid-19 and Black Lives Matter police brutality, it has become painfully obvious that trumpism is also a death-cult.

Yeah, that's the problem with white Evangelicals, they WANT the end of the world. Pence isn't as stupid and crazy as his boss, but he definitely wet dreams of the apocalypse. All those nasty non-Christians and brown people get tortured forever by his loving god, and he gets to go to some celestial mall or something and just eat mayonnaise and listen to light jazz forever! 🙂

@Observer-Effect
Eat mayonnaise? 🤣 🤣 🤣 Ew!
I do get the innuendo.

"Livin' in your white bread world"! Song lyrics from somebody I can't remember.
