Russian submarines are lurking near the communications cables that link the US to the rest of the world thousands of meters deep in the North Atlantic.
It seems to me like a 1950's problem. It's about as real as Trump calling out the National Guard to protect our border with Mexico so that illegal immigrants do not over run us. The Orange one thinks this is a current crisis. I think I should take another nap.
BTW communications cables are not used any more. Everything is digital.
exactly my thoughts. The satellites are what matter now. And if the ruskies take those out the rest of the world suffers too. Plus the ruskies are now in charge in the US anyway thanks to Putin's strings on the Orange one and his oil dealing buddies. They don't want to cut anyone off. They want to sell fossil fuels so we can move willingly back towards the Carboneferous while enriching themselves and their worthy friends.
I think you might want to read up on this a bit more. Yes, it as it stands now is not insurmountable but we do not know what they are doing or laying the groundwork for?
But then what do I know, being not as wise as some.I do know that the Justice Department, the CIA and the FBI are denigrated on a regular base, people are fired, forced out, no new hires and offices are shuttered
However since the "mighty orange one," often calls and visits telephonically with Putin, he probably gave him directions!
But then it must merely be a nineteen fifties problem.
Wonderful news-not. With TD aggravating Russia with new sanctions this could be a problem.
They are probably listening to the traffic on the cables. When electrons run through a wire they induce voltage that can be "picked up" by gadgets that wrap around the cable. These responses can be converted and analyzed to find out what is being transmitted without harming the cable in any way.
Could we please get some more Russian dressing for our rigged election salad?
We use satellites, nowadays to communicate with people all over the world.
Do we still use those?
Extensively. Most internet comms goes through submarine cables.
“We are now seeing Russian underwater activity in the vicinity of undersea cables that I don’t believe we have ever seen,” said U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Andrew Lennon, the commander of NATO’s submarine forces. “Russia is clearly taking an interest in NATO and NATO nations’ undersea infrastructure."
