Mask hatred?

In our "stupid" state there are no restrictions concerning the spread of covid. It's up to each person or business how they handle it. We are a bible belt state so there's a lot of ignorance here along with their religiosity and along with that also the inevitable hate for things not like them. I have been ridiculed, admonished and slurred for wearing a mask. Some people have even been assaulted. Businesses have been verbally attacked and employees threatened for having restrictions due to covid. And against the scientific evidence the state has opened schools with little to no safety requirements.

It seems to me the most ignorant and hateful are the religious, maybe because accepting the science of diseases and treatments is seen as lack of faith or even a betrayal of their god. Are you finding this to be true in your area? It's kind of hard to judge here as so many are Xtian or claim faith publicly in order to "fit in" when we know many are not.

Have you experienced aggression or violence due to you wearing a mask?

Folks on Chemo have been staying home for decades.

If you feel that you are at risk........... stay the hell home and leave everyone else alone.

Problem solved.

Awwww... aren't you cute... in that stupid way no one likes.

@MissKathleen I’m a doctor. I can assure you, your mask is a statement. It does absolutely nothing.

I wear a mask and glasses to ensure that I don’t slobber in your leg as I stitch it up and to ensure that you don’t squirt blood in my eyes, nose, or mouth while I stitch you up.

It doesn’t do shit for a virus.

Remember the last time you went to the Dr. for the flu. They didn’t wear a mask because it wasn’t government mandated because it didn’t matter. If it mattered; we would.

@CourtJester I work with doctors all day long. More than nine out of ten that I see are wearing masks, but yes, a few don't. It doesn't make you right. I know doctors who smoke, too. Doctors can be wrong. Masks are not the whole answer, but yes, wearing them DOES prevent some "shit," as you call it, along with social distancing and hand washing. It is this pervasive American attitude that worships everyone doing their own thing that has us as a whole far worse off in this pandemic.

Re. "Your mask is a statement...", Why yes, it is, and that is helpful. It reminds people you encounter that you are mindful of potential for virus spread and that they should be, too. It is YOUR attitude, championed by politicians and preachers and multiplied millions of times, that explains why we have over 170K, and counting, dead from this insidious virus.

@luckytobealive Oh dear, I'm just not up for word salad today. 😟

@luckytobealive So what is the number of ‘excess’ deaths. This’ll be interesting.

@luckytobealive do those deaths include those moved back into nursing homes by Democrat governors, the cardiac arrest Covid victims, the motorcycle wreck Covid victims, and the suicide Covid victims????

@luckytobealive I work in medicine. Hospitals get funds for Covid deaths. Not all deaths are Covid deaths. Not by a long shot. It’s the flu with media buzz.

@luckytobealive amazing how India, Uganda, and nations with high malaria risks that pop hydroxychloroquine like candy have the lowest death rates among all societies.
Democrats hate hydroxychloroquine.

I'm in Washington state. Masks are mandatory and, as far as I could tell, they were socially acceptable even before they became mandatory.

This does NOT mean that we don't have a few mask-less morons running around, of course! And there are the half-maskers, who think that they are so clever (I guess?) by wearing their masks with their noses poking out.

By and large, though, masking is the norm.

I live in GA. Taunts of "must suck being so afraid" happen often when I venture out in my county. The ities aren't as bad.

I've been called stupid, fraidy, dumb bitch. They see it as a political statement instead of a health risk option.

And what state is the stupid state you live in?

Oklahoma

@Leelu good to know, thanks.

In Washington State, masks are mandatory. No one criticizes me for wearing a mask.

I mouth off to morons that don't wear mask.

@Willow_Wisp

You go, girl! Me, too.

"Wearing a mask with your nose uncovered is like cutting off the tip of your condom," I tell people.

Most people laugh. Others look startled. They all pulled up their mask.

@LiterateHiker When I'm walking in the park and someone's coming the other way and not wearing a mask I leave the sidewalk for the grass, I don't want the MF near me.

@MissKathleen I think of the quarantine as a gift from the universe.
I value my alone time.
But Coronaphobia is a reality for me.

@Willow_Wisp

I do the same thing while hiking. The worst is a narrow trail with a drop off on one side and high rocks on the other side.

With nowhere to flee, I turn my back on people and hold my breath.

Missouri isn't much better....my local area no long is requiring tables at restaurants have 6 foot social distancing. I found that by going to the store and seeing the local diner was packed. I asked at the store and found that out. SMH
