How many others reached a point like myself, where they cannot or will not date a god believer? as an anti theist, I share micheal shermers views that man created this god nonsense, and there is no reason to state you are agnostic. to fully respect my partner, she will have to be of the same views about gods and religion. to have a true bond and trust and respect.

I recently tried dating a Mormon. Talk about your fairy tale thinking. We started making out on our fourth date so it raised the discussion (pun intended) about sex. He shared that he won't have (traditional) sex outside marriage BUT, he will engage in the other type. What BS thinking is that?! Either you hold a conviction or you don't. If you are going out of your way to find loopholes in ridiculous rules, I can't hang. I joined this app the next day.

I thought I owuld be ok with a believer, but I dated a lady a year ago who cured me of that idea. Never again.

I won't do it again. Not worth the inevitable headache.

i look at it like this, if we can both sit there and discuss things as adults, if we can come 2 an agreement on things like how we will approach our kids one day with the subject, and if we can both respect the others beliefs, then i see no reason why not. its not for everyone, but some people do make it work.

Im a theist. Im dating a non theist. We will see....

Hope it works out for you.

This podcast addresses your type of relationships and if memory serves, there is a case or two where that relationship works out.

I have no respect for those that value superstition over reality. As I consider respect a foundation to a positive relationship, I disqualify any person who identifies as a superstitionalist (theist) as a person worthy of consideration for sharing my life. And yes, I have long ago come to terms with living my life alone.

@NoMagicCookie that makes me kind of sad that you would judge a person wholly based on one aspect of their make up. If I did that I would have missed out on getting to know some truly remarkable people. That being said I do respect you and your choices in this subject area and your personal awareness to recognize that it’s something you simply can’t get past. I wish you much happiness and success in whatever you want to find.

@NoMagicCookie and also thank you for the podcast and well wishes. I’ll definitely check it out.

Another reason I don't date, at all.

@MichaelSpinler If there are, they're hiding. Plus, I'm probably too old for them anyway. LOL

I've never considered a dating a religiot. First requirement is to be a non-believer.

I'd love to be charitable about it. I had a lady friend for some years who said she was Christian, but never said a word about it. I'll say I am somewhat open to it, but probably only if the lady was similarly never proselytizing. I had to give up my last lady friend who was devoutly Buddhist, but she had a lot of other problems too (boozy, inconsiderate, dramatic). It's really awful how religionist memorize and repeat trite epigrams, but have no idea what they mean; usually they don't have any real meaning... Being a scientist, I am particularly offended by Christianity because a big part of Creationist culture is to denounce science, evolutionists and athiests in particular as Satanic. You'll never hear Christians denounce their brethren on account of their bigotry... Being Christian is good for one solid strike. Each mention of God in their profile gets another. Do the math.

To me it's all about how we deal with it. If she is cool about it, not up in my face, trying to convert me, if she wants to do her thing, for what ever reason and it works within 'us', then it's all good.

I have no problem being with a religious person, so long as they are fine with my lack of religion.

@MichaelSpinler I don’t have a religious line. I can easily imagine a person that believes these silly notions, but is still fun to be around and perfectly lovable. Does such a person exist? Who knows.

I went out with a hardcore Baptist once. Yikes! If someone believes in sky fairies, they can date someone else!

Your not the only one who has a "red flag" list.

And Religion/supernaturalism is on mine for sure.

I am a total atheist, and my wife of 23 years is a devot Catholic. We knew that about each other when we married, and we respect each other's right to believe as we chooise. Other than religion, we tend to share very similar liberal values and philosophiesa. We care deeply about each othr, and religion is nEVER a source of conflict between us.

You may rule out some truly lovable women with your current view.

I just could never have a meaningful conversation with someone who believed in religion. It affects every aspect of our lives.

I have to agree with you. I think I would have a hard time being respectful of his belief system as I see it as fairy tales myself. I think prayer and church may be well-intended, but they are useless and pointless. Don't spend your energy praying for someone who is ill, for example, but do something useful like cook them meals, keep them company, clean their house, etc.

I think I’m in agreement. Not necessarily an atheist, but a free thinker. I do love the pic.

2

Well I'm dating a theist now. Time will tell...
