my neighbors taught me that in 1962

A friend posted it on FB and i thought people here would like the idea too.. I like it lots 🙂

Excellent! I used to live near the beach in South Florida and this was a big thing ... we picked up ours and tried as much as we could to compensate for the tourists.

And anyone seen using the sand as an ashtray should be kicked in the head.

Spot on!

I love this idea. I don't live near a beach, but when I see garbage in the ground I usually pick it up.

Me too!!

I'll go to the beach the time the Kardashians do. Whatever they get recycled into would be a marked improvement.

I've been doing this for years.

Also when I go out walking I often collect rubbish and drop it into a bin.

It's a great idea that needs to be encouraged from an early age - even better not to drop the stuff in the first place (though not all is directly due to littering)

You bet. That is an excellent idea. Unfortunately, I rarely go to the beach anymore; quit surfing a couple years ago, and live farther inland. But, I do take a bag with me for trash collection when I hike, and may start doing that when I mountainbike.

Yes me too!!! 🙂 I hate seeing it !

3 miles off the coast of California there is a ball of plastic 85% of it is plastic bags the other portion is just debris. It is twice the size of Texas is 800 miles in diameter.

Yeh the Pacific Garbage Patch is now twice the size of France and growing .. France is not small. Tragic!

I don't think that's a correct distance. Maybe 300 miles.

Do you throw the 36x24x36 bodies off the lilos first or are you allowed to take them with you?

Just club them over the head and drag them out far enough for fish to eat them lol !!

@Nickbeee lol but I shouldn't! And what a waste of 36x24x36 bodies - most these days are more like 60x40x60 tanks.

@FrayedBear Hahaha!!! 😮

How about 3 bags instead?

Yeh I take a few! always two. Any green space too! 🙂

A simple but great idea. Two thumbs up.

We own our local beach. We collect every piece of plastic we find every time we go there.
I hate tourists, and the ocean delivers a lot. Regardless, we take it away as do most of our locals.

Yes! In fact fo it everywhere! Our Atheist group has a stretch of Babcock St. Melbourne'Palm Bay, Fl and so far have about 150 pounds at three hours a month for about eight people!

I usually carry a bag for stones and treasures and a bag for trash. Great idea. Go for 10!

2

I usually take a trash bag with me, and fill it with what I find before I go. I never have to
look hard.

2

I pick up trash but when Tijuana dumps sewage, my beach is contaminated. They do it frequently.

I've heard that before. Does it happen often? Dirty, contaminated water was one of the last straws in my decision to quit surfing a couple years ago.

Looks like a positive message to me. 🙂

Excellent idea.

i've been doing this for years. Not just plastic but any trash that won't biodegrade.

🙂

Banning plastic bags is banned in Michigan. SMH.

That is nuts!!!!

What if they are all the people who didn't care and put the plastic there? Lol

I don't think anyone understands you dude! lol

@Nickbeee What's there not to understand? If all the people going to the beach are the ones who are polluting, what makes you think they will give a crap about cleaning it?
