Woodie Guthrie's famous song "This land is your land". I believe he meant it as song against private ownership of land but when sung by the descendant of European, probably Scottish, immigrants it sounds a bit hollow.

Woody was a mongrel, if you look at his genealogical tree he had ancestors from both England and Germany. He died of Huntington's disease which I think is mainly from England.

He wrote this song while tramping across America leaving Oklahoma's dustbowl. Okies saw many no trespassing signs on their way to California and many more when they got there.

One of the personal tragedies for me resulting from covid was the fact that I didn't get to go to the Woodyfest musical festival in July this year. Lefty musicians from all over the United States celebrate Woody on his birthday in Okemah Oklahoma. We have 12 hours of music everyday culminating in a 3-hour concert at the pastures of plenty.People come from all over the United States and a few foreign countries. Pete Seeger was the headliner 2 years before he died.

Thanks for the info. Guthrie is a Scottish name so I assumed one of his ancestors must have originated here, just as Johnny Cash's ancestor came from Cash farm in Fife.
He was certainly influential in the folk music scene. I remember seeing a photo of Bob Dylan visiting him in hospital when he was terminally ill.
I have traveled enough in the USA to appreciate the attitude of many landowners. I have seen more no trespassing signs in a day than i would see here in a lifetime.
I was just commenting on the fact that the indigenous people didn't get a mention in his song.

@StarvingArtist I will save you a front row seat.
