IMO, the three biggest political diseases in the last 12 years are the Tea Party, the Republican Freedon Caucus, and the rise of the psuedo-Republican trumpers. They have poisoned the well for anything resembling responsible government. Obstructionism for the sake of obstructionism. Hatefulness to just be hateful. They are an anethema to the running of a humanistic, democratic form of government.

I'm convinced almost every Trump supporter that was born and raised in a blue city would not be a Republican today. Likewise if they are evangelicals and were raised in a muslim country they would be muslims.
The reality is the single defining characteristic of humans that has lead to our advancement and dominance on this planet (for better or for worse if you're not a human) is our collective cooperation. Living alone in the woods is simply not feasible, and from that everything else is derived.
@prometheus Name a scientific or technological breakthrough that was accomplished by a collective.
