Put on your hip boots, it's getting deep! He blames the sixties......

"One of the most important conversations a 21st century Christian in American can engage in is centered around a stark reality: The church is dying. For the purposes of this series, I will only be speaking about the American church; globally, the church is doing fantastically!

The State of the Church in America

Church attendance has steadily declined 38% over past several decades.1
59% of millennials growing up in church have dropped out.2

If the Republican or Democratic Party had stats like this, they would be freaking out and dramatically changing the way they do things. (Interestingly enough, about a year ago, the DNC Chair fired every staff member because the direction they were taking wasn’t leading to the results they wanted to see.) If the NFL lost 38% of their audience, they would completely change the way the industry is run.

Instead of reacting appropriately to the decline, the church has responded in one of two ways. Either, we ignore the decline of the church in America, because “the patient isn’t sick enough”—meaning that before people start taking things seriously, attendance must reach critical levels. Or, we propose cosmetic changes to our collapsing structures. The house has severe structural damage, and yet we find ourselves arguing over what paint we should apply to the doors."

Let it die, I say.

More excuses for why more people are thinking rationally and eschewing fairy tales.
They're scared to death that they're losing their power. That's all.
Can't keep everyone mindless forever.

When the myth is based on the science of 4000 years ago it's just hard to reatain membership. New myth needed.

Oh, there's plenty of new myths!!!! Just YouTube "ultimate truth" and you'll be treated to anything from Flat Earthers to the New World Order myths!

@GilesD scientology is starting to sound good to me.....not!

@Razorjelly that's a particularly wired one! There is weird and then there's WTf!, little green alien overlords living inside the planet, weird. !!!!!!

I question that any church outside of the US is doing well. How do you know that? The church in the US has been dying for many years. Why not let it die? I'm also confused as to what pertinence does this discussion have on this website? What are you really asking?

I'm simply bringing you an account from "the other side." How to admit the truth, yet wrap it with enough encouragement so your Christian audience doesn't realize how bad things actually are.
I'm merely bringing this and other articles up to facilitate discussions. I am not the author of the articles. I am bringing them up to encourage thoughts.

It is amazing how "true believer" demagogues can distort reality.

If are going to talk politics and religion, all the politicians need is for the religious to vote and the rest not to remain in power.

In my area, there is an obviously former church that was turned into a record store.

Yes! Rock concerts with dancing nightly!

There are former churches here that were turned into homes and in one case, a saloon.

More gibberish from that author. If Church attendance is declining, it's for a reason. If he wants to stop that trend then he's going to have to use the very best abilities of his brain and cognitive critical thinking.......... Ouch.......... He hasn't got a hope in Hell! 😉
