Medically speak, when you're DEAD you ARE dead and that IS about the whole size of it.
I've been Clinically DEAD 3 times in my life, brought back 3 times thanks to the knowledge of Doctors and Nurses.
I nursed people who are dying and have subsequently died, had my children die before their time, my parents are both dead and gone so I reckon I know pretty much what there is to know about Death ans Dying.

@Watty None, but I remember prior to it and after it though.

Flattened twice. Nothing happens. This is more life after death bullshit. Why are you even here if this is a question in your mind?

Maybe you should watch the video before making lame comments.....

@Dhiltong maybe you should go to my block list. Yes you should

We don't know what happens to us when we die.

For myself I don't care I won't be there when I'm dead my consciousness will fade as my brain shuts down the rest is just an empty husk do with it what you will. And if you had the absolute answer what would you do then? I'm going to enjoy what I have now and not worry about what happens "then".

After death, you break down into topsoil. Out of which grows plants, and trees. And when they die, they too break down into topsoil. Out of which grows yet more plants and trees. It's a never-ending cycle.
Are you good and bored pondering the after-life yet?

Here's a taste of reality from a biologist. Not a damn thing happens after death except you immediately start to decompose and get digested by your cellular enzymes, bacteria, and and fungi. In other words--you rot. Period. Stop.

To me the question is essentially no different from wanting to know the lottery numbers or some event before it actually happens. Imagine for a moment that you know what is going to happen before it happens. There would be no surprises in life and it would be boringly predictable and I think that it would become completely flat in terms of experience.

Some people have talked about walking into a white light and maybe that is neurons firing off in the brain like grand firework display, who knows? I read somewhere that someone thinking about death said something to the effect: "I hope that there is some tunnel at the end of the light."

So, do all animals possibly have an afterlife--or only humans? Also, unless someone is pronounced brain dead, they didn't actually die. The temporary cessation of breathing or of a beating heart is not death. And, I don't know of anyone who has come back from brain death.

Clinical death, is the term you're looking for as it is the cessation of breathing and circulatory functions. One might not be "dead" but is on the path as it is the start the process to which leads to death. The body because of a lack of oxygen, starts to shutdown and experiences ischemic injury. The brain while not dead stops functioning at about 40 seconds of no oxygen and as the during increases the chance of resuscitation and recovery diminishes.

What happens after you die?

You rot.

Merely a topic which you can’t collect data unless you somehow raised the dead and be able to have a conversation with. I’m mean dead for a decent period of time. However, I wouldn’t say no purpose just lacking one we know. I think death just a way for our mind to put us to rest without feeling our bodies fully decompose into dust. A long endless dream. The issue with my statement would be does the way you die impact that? Getting shot in the head versus old age. I wouldn’t know.

Remember how you were before birth? You'll be the same after death.

I have the answer. You're dead.

Oxygen leaves you brain. You're brain dead. Your consciousness ceases to exist. Fade to black. Rigor mortis, you biodegrade. They might have you embalmed. Buried. Cremated. Maybe they put you in an urn or spread your ashes somewhere. It doesn't matter. You're gone. Accept it or go to church. It won't matter.

I agree and science has evidence of everything you said, except “your consciousness ceases to exist”. Not sure that’s a proven fact, though it is a general belief.

@Canndue That's what I believe, it's logical. The burden of proof is on those who insist consciousness continues after death.

@barjoe I get it, that’s why I consider myself an atheist, the belief. May just be semantics, the rest of the statement was all verifiable facts. The consciousness phrase is a belief. Totally agree on the burden of proof.
