Anyone else notice the link between conservatism and crisis around the world? From China to the Middle East to the US? Sure, its wrapped up in different religions, but it all goes back to social conservative ideology... No?
I am currently reading a book THE PEOPLE vs. DEMOCRACY: Why Our Freedom Is in Danger and How to Save It. by Yascha Mounk. It addresses this very issue. Interesting reading.
I don't think it's necessarily conservatism. I think if anything it's radicalism. It's these simple ideologies that become radicalized and these people are extremists. I think that most conservatives are boring and they aren't really capable of anything that would be considered extreme or radical because they are vanilla pudding LOL.
They are the opposite my friend. There are more links to peadophiles, more shares holders in the arms and tobacco industries in the conservative right in both UK and US then anywhere.. There is nothing vanilla about most of them. They just play a good game. They are at the top through espionage - robbery and extortion .. not being kind and petting furry animals.
Being the democrats have lined right up behind the republicans in this matter, this seems more like an admittance to the US now being purely conservative. The conservatives went full bore religious on us in the late 40s to combat the new deal and socialism which they feared was going to take hold. When today both party's make religion such a need within their campaigning towards being elected it only shows another example of how they're the same.
Definitely trumpism is perpetuating world political and economic turmoil.
Throuout history consevatives have sought to repress change which would allow a nation and culture to adapt to new conditions. The results have almost always been negative. In more than a few cases, such conservative actions have caused the collapse of the country and/or civilization.
I suppose it depends how you define conservative. Conservative mostly just means continuing to do what you always have done rather than doing something new.
Do you define conservative as capitalist? Socialism/communism have almost always been defined as leftist ideology. Because of that I would say China definitely doesn’t fit in the boxes you drew. North Korea or Venezuela are some other examples of countries on the left that are in pretty bad situations.
I feel pretty confident there needs to be a balance between conservatism and liberalism. We need to keep what’s good, throw out what’s bad, and fine tune things that only partially work. I don’t think that gets done without both sides of the political spectrum.
What are you considering the crisis in the US? The orange buffoon?
Yup. That’s the point.
Fear of Others keeps the machine alive and running.
I take your point, but would narrow the field to the prevalence of nationalism in right wing politics (usually masquerading as patriotism or religious fidelity) being the major cause.
Humans are naturally tribal by instinct, adherence to a national identity and doubly so when a national identity is linked with a religious or theocratic political aspect, immediately gives the follower or citizen an enemy to hate and fear (Not one of us)(a threat to our way of life).
Definitely in the West as that was the driving force and motivation by "empires" of old ! Different in "East" i guess unless western unfluence has got in like say India ?!! Where there is a lot of people who love British things and ways who are Indian and it's a kind of mixture. I think those structures are usually where your Public Relations sphere's and Arms Dealers are allowed to cross over and propogate around diplomatic and monied right leaning social circles... Then you find links to arms dealers and private security ... next you find oil and diamonds ... you just have to dig hard ..After all you don't get many left leaning people becoming arms dealers lol .. Like you don't get many ultra conservative people in low payed jobs doing care work .. and if you do it's often CV related. Conservatism is where the heart of the arms industry lives in the West certainly and to deny that influence spreads elsewhere would i think be a bit nieve..
traditionally the left is about social reform rather than profit although it's shifted a lot now too hasn't it .. There is a hard left backlash in the UK currently as a reaction to that right influence in the left ...
Well, China is an atheist, quasi-communist country, so I don’t see them as conservative.
