VPNs. Your recommendations.
For those using VPNs I would like to know your opinions and recommendations.
I use AIR VPN. Based in Italy, absolutely no logs, run by activists, a bit un-user friendly in set up, but generally fast, reliable and reasonably priced.
Any recommendations in terms of those factors I have mentioned?
I think you need to read the articles in this website [topvpnchoice.com]
There are a lot of helpful information about VPN.
Personally, I can recommend a NordVPN. Reliable and cheap. As you you wanted
If you will choose this VPN you can buy it on those website.
Nordvpn are good. Fast data streams.
Go to site, go through the maybe buy it etc but dont. Delay and when go to quit site they will give you are very good money off discount if sign up for two years.
I've been with IPVanish for a couple of years now, mostly using it on my mobile when on unsecured Wi-Fi. They promise that they do not log connections. My original reason for going with them was that they had a client that was usable on the Amazon Fire stick (a lot of Android VPN clients won't work without touchscreen or mouse.) At which point, I discovered that my first generation stick (without Alexa voice activation) doesn't support VPN anyway. You have to use router based VPN on these older devices.
I haven't tried the DNS leak test on it yet. I'll have to install it on my laptop and give that a go.
I used to use PrivateTunnel. A very economical model in that you pay by the gigabyte rather than monthly. Used only when needed, I could make $20 of credit last a full 12 months. But PrivateTunnel log, and will release those logs when provided with appropriate legal documentation. So good if you don't want your browsing to be visible to others on the same network as you. Not so good if you want to download or stream copyright content without paying for it.
I forget which VPN I tried before IPVanish, but trying to pay for it caused my bank to block my debit card while their fraud department contacted me. Presumably a lot of people are paying for VPN with stolen credit card details.
I use private internet access. However I pay with a prepaid card, and the vpn configuration is in my router directly thus giving all my wifi devices anonymity. I wanted to give free wifi to my area without fear of paying for someone's mistakes, and it also helps against online players using DDOS attacks to cheat. Maybe look into that this setup has worked for me 2+ years. Good day.
Here is a succesful / unsuccesful DNS leak test ..
In the unsuccesful one you cacn see the providers servers.. My provider is through a mobile wifi connection so is already a tunnel in effect (the providers data network) .. so shows no location.. would be very easy to get location from the IP .. it's in london and shows "Three" my service provider.
In the other test we are showing only one server - In Ireland.. I am in the uk .. and no service provider !
IVPN are a bit more money & highest encryption on market. Nord VPN are great and offer double VPN, Tor over VPN & a killswitch. Tiger are very good too & i currently use them.
Consider using "Tunnelblick" as your VPN client rather than provided application. It's open source and highly secure. You have to load config files with it, but if you are looking for security it's a no brainer.
Always check for DNS leaks ?:
[dnsleaktest.com]
A lot of commercial VPNs will fall down at this so check. I recently trialed "Ivacy" (don't lol) and leak test revealed my location & server of net provider. I'll post a pic on here of a successful DNS test in a while.
Cyberghost & tunnel bear are okay plus a host of others. DNS leaktest is your friend. If it reveals your location or services / net service providers servers the VPN is pointless ? ...
"Cracked.com" "Cracked Shop" are offering a host of lifetime subscription VPN deals cheap. Think i payed $56 for life & 50 servers recently on Tiger !
Google dscount codes for Nord and others .. you will find em.. Reddit may be a good place to get codes too!!
@David1955 Nord have no logs and you can pay in bitcoin on a tor registered email if you really want security !!
What age is your Mac... I am running a 2011 MBP and a 2015 and both run it fine !!
I ran Nord on an un regged account payed for in crypto for two years and really have tested to the limits it's been seriously onioned lol.
Another option is manual config through BASH !! I use that sometimes and it's great .. .Also on OSX if you use the Network Connections manager in setting to config your own VPNs manually that is super solid !!
@Nickbeee If they have no individually identifiable records of traffic, a subpoena for individually identified records is legally neutered. If the encryption to the vpn is strong enough, I don't think cryptocurrency is necessary to accomplish an amount of privacy that we should all be demanding as a minimum. I'm not saying the additional layer of cryptocurrency isn't valuable, but that advocating for that as the bar to consideration of vpn services may reduce the number of people willing and able to sign up for such things and the more people that use vpn services, the more secure everyone is, since isolating my encrypted packets becomes harder when there are more encrypted packets.
So my question to you, as you are someone who has looked into this more than I have, if the service doesn't log, what is your real exposure from the bank payment other than the information that you use a certain vpn?
@DJVJ311 I said "serious" as in doing potentially illegal things lol .. Many people use em for Penetration testing .. I have ... So you want full security & crypto. For everyday use I agree bank is fine!! Depends what you are doing.
I am talking about going in fully masked on US department of defense sub contractors Mac address flying into hell below the radar lol
@DJVJ311 ... and exposure though the VPN isn't what you have to worry about even in a lower security problem.. Say you are streaming vid and torrenting ... and there is a wide sweep on the site that hosts your links .. your vpn drops for a while and you don't notice.. Your Mac address isn't masked and your hardware id - location and service provider are visible .. security agencies then go directly to your bank from there because you payed for the net service with the bank.. Then they look through your bank records and so on and so forth!!
@Nickbeee Once they have your location, IP, mac address, they have enough to come pick up your PC. Instead of that if they get the bank records, they have the bank records before they have my vpn provider. Once they have my vpn provider, my activity is still hidden. That should still be a dead end and the same level of exposure if I didn't use my bank account.
@DJVJ311 I have given you a real life reason for a problem you didn't understand .. I am not here to play tennis in some pointless debate about VPN's lol.. The point was about paying in crypto .. now you have presented a straw man argument about something else .. You don't have to be a net security expert to understand paying in crypto is going to be safer for a number of reasons - I am talking about bitcoin washed / laundered in the darknet - in fact you don't have to be a hamster to get it really lol !!! bye lol

As a World traveler I use Witopia. Even in China it works but only for so long. The price is more expensive than some others I hear but they have good sales that make it very reasonable. Iβd say itβs very fast as generally the biggest limiting factor is the host internet itself. Iβm happy with Witopia.
Nord works in China & its not expensive ?
