American candy bars are mostly sugar. When it comes to chocolate, Hershey Bars pretty much suck. Mostly sugar and waxy texture. I sometimes can get real English candy online. Cadbury is a whole lot better than even "good" milk chocolate sold in the states. These came in yesterday. [bbc.com]

I rarely buy any but if I do, I tend to stick to local places that make their own and choose dark chocolates. If I go see family in Ohio, I always have to stop at [dietschs.com] in Findlay, OH.

These at at my local store everyday. But if I started to eat them every day, I would end up at 300 lbs most likely

I shop at Aldi's where they sell German chocolate, with almonds., with hazelnuts ( my favorite), or with white chocolate.

They do have chocolate. The stuff I buy there isn't that good. Not in the states.

Forget Cadbury, it's no longer an individual company. It has become a "brand name", owned by Mondelez.
It's the same for Terrys, another brand owned by Mondelez.
If you want REAL, high quality British made chocolate, here is a listing of the top ten producers.

Can I get this stuff in the United States?

@barjoe Try ordering it via Amazon.co.uk

Unless it's old and chalky there is no bad chocolate. I've eaten chocolate from all over the world and English chocolate is not really any better. It's all about the quality of what you're willing to pay for.

Strange, in the same way here in Britain, we alway consider our chocolate inferior to the European brands.

Swiss Chocolate. Now that's chocolate. Best there is in my humble opinion. Taste can be subjective having said that

Unless I'm mistaken, the only way to NOT have sugar as the #1 ingredient, is to eat a DARK chocolate bar. Doesn't a MILK chocolate bar always have a lot of sugar?

Either way, if you like a creamier texture than hershey bars but still available in the states, try Lindt, Dagoba, Sharfenberger, Dove, Bliss, Wonka, or even in a pinch the Hershey "Symphony" products. A Hershey Bar, although iconic, certainly not their best confection.

Dove chocolate is not as good as UK Cadbury.

You unfortunate folks. Cadbury is owned by Mondelez, Hershey owns the right to "manufacture" "Cadbury chocolate " in the US. Eschew.

Which unfortunate folks are you talking about? We are talking about candy bars here. lol

I thought Hershey bought Cadbury's. I've avoided Hershey products as they were conservative decades ago. I heard some good PR recently, but I'm not sure.

They did. They make Cadbury in the states but it not the real stuff. When they first bought it they sold the imported chocolate. Now they only allow American "Cadbury" to be distributed and it's crappy Hershey chocolate. American candy the first ingredient is sugar, the English candy the first ingredient is milk. These are individually imported.

Sorry mate, I've never been fond of milk chocolate of any kind. To me, bitter is better, as I much prefer Ritter Sport's halbbitter and other dark and semi-sweet chocolates. Perhaps I'm not a 'typical' American, but I grew up next to a chocolate factory.

I agree, but these are good. I like dark chocolate as well.

@barjoe This chocolate company is less than a mile away, and when the winds are favorable, boy does it give me a hankering for one of their semi-sweet confections!

I try to stay as sugar free as possible, haven't had a piece of chocolate in more than 6 months.

Carbs aren't good for you. Stay the course.

I find Cadbury too sweet...those eggs make my teeth ache just watching the commercials

That is American Cadbury Easter eggs. All sugar. These are Cadbury Dairy Milk, they are only sold in UK, vendors ship them to the states. They ain't cheap but it's worth it. [amazon.com]
