I posted on this before and got little response. Maybe nobody had an opinion. Once again the local Ministerial Alliance in my area is sponsoring USDA food donations in April. A tractor/trailer will show up full of "Farmers Families Food Boxes" and give them out to those who need them with no questions asked. In April the dates will be the 1st, 15th, and 29th. I will be there on those days to get food for myself and my kids. I hope both my kids will be there also. Last time cars and trucks were lined up for over 2 blocks.
Recently the town I work in also had this and the ones handing out the food yelled at me to pull over. They gave me 4 boxes of food and wanted to give me more. I gave a lot of the food to my older daughter later coz she has 3 kids. Apples, oranges, meats, etc. all help.
Some people claim to know what I'm talking about and mention "boxed milk." Sorry. There is milk but no boxed milk. Nothing of any kind with expired dates or close to expiration. A lot of this is causing confusion and even anger. A girl I work with hem hawed and said she could not get any of that food because she had to go to a hardware store. A man in his 80's got very upset in my town and said he did not need charity. He had worked hard all his life and paid for everything with his own money and be damned if he would accept charity now.
Surprise! This is the Department of Agriculture's give away. It means that American's have paid for this and paid for it with their own money! This comes in handy in our pandemic times. I see the need here and I do not credit any gods.

Several of my friends have evidently been getting lots of food from food pantries and are trying to give me some. I'm fortunate to be retired with a secure income so I asked them to donate it instead to someone who really needs it. One neighbor has been donating hers to her church pantry. I am amazed at the amount of food being offered to me for nothing. I hope that means that people that really need it are getting it as well.

They should be if they are just made aware of it. The big job of all of us that know about any needy food projects is to get the word out. Lots of food is donated but if it is USDA it means taxpayers have already paid for it. Many of us are needy taxpayers.
The Secular Coalition For America (non-profit org.) is having a "Secular Week of Action" during the week of May 6 (National Prayer Day) and is a positive event for the welfare of the needy and to counter an absolutely useless recognition of how religion transgresses into a culture for there OWN welfare!
I realize that's a long time from now but food is needed then and Thank You!

I think this is an important post, thank you for posting it again. I didn't see it the first time.
It Is foolish to think that all members of any community will be self-sufficient 100% of the time. Everyone needs some type of help at some point in their life, whether they recognize it or not. Giving and receiving are critical roles for every community member. Both giver and receiver derive benefits from participating in their community.
The USDA food distribution is not charity, it is a totally appropriate function of government Even if it were charity, anyone who opposes it opposes people having their basic needs met and that tells us all we need to know about them.

We have food distribution from Food Link several times a month in our county. Usually, boxes of food get put into the trunk of my car, quantities are based on how many people live in my household. Since I currently provide for three adults ad one child, I gladly accept whatever they want to give to me. We share with our whole tribe, but usually, it is my turn to transport it. No, I am not too proud to accept free groceries. I have paid taxes all my life and gladly receive this help.

I've been spreading the word about these boxes to my local community too. I don't know who of my network is actually using it; but at least I give the info to those who are unaware. I also helped connect a new non-profit so that they could get food to make/serve to unhoused neighbors. They are getting two cars full of fresh produce to cook with. We make up what the meal is based on what we get; any other ingredients we ask for donations (goods or money). Nice to see humanity at play.
