Marriage Question follow-up...
Thanks everyone for answering and contributing to my last poll question: [bit.ly]

I have a follow-up question and would love more feedback.
I have friends who are considering some sort of celebration to commemorate being together for a significant number of years. Our combined thoughts on marriage are ambivalent, but the idea of a themed gathering for the purpose of celebrating and reinforcing the bond they have together is appealing.
It's with this in mind that I'm considering becoming ordained with the Church of FSM.

Does anyone have any thoughts, advice, experience....??

Relationship fatigue is a very real well researched problem. Taking the time to celebrate the commitment of two people by the community in which they interact is critical for the survival of the unit. In our family we had a celebration of marriage to honor all the couples and to reinforce their commitment to make them work. Staying married can be hard work and needs the support of the village.

True enough - and point take - Support form the 'village' helps for sure.
... ... and the village idiot?? (me) 😉

MAKE ENOUGH gawdly noodles for people to slurp in heavenly spaghetti faith and ridicule all the believers you invite to your non-marital wedding. ...I do not know a single Flying Spaghetti Monster "hymn" but maybe a Atheist composer/musician is available to harmonize & set a dance tempo for your intimate bliss event

Just be easy on the sauce

Oh, good one!

None of it is official, soooooo......
You are hereby declared an official officiant of the Church of The Flying Spaghetti Monster, endowed with the power to perform any and all rituals deemed necessary by friends and family with blood alconol levels under 1.0, in accordance with FSM dogma.
Go thou and Smite !
(Please remit whatever money I just saved you, thankyuvurrymuch)

Well, not sure you saveed me anything, but you did get a laugh. Also, not sure I was planning to smite anyone. LOL.
Please forward me your address so that I might send you the appropriate remittance...

@scurry But think of the smiting possibilies in DC alone right now! Lol!

@AnneWimsey ROFL - Ture...
I'm Canadian - but maybe I can Smite from a distance.
Also we have some who could use some smiting up here too.
LOL

Cool. What is the ordination process of the Church of FSM? I assume pasta is involved. And pirates.

I would have hoped so too, but it looked like a VISA card is all that's required. :/
[venganza.org]

@scurry See! See! The FSM is just a Nigerian scam!!!

@Palindromeman Ha ha ha... But I would get a Certificate AND a laminated ID card for my wallet... because that will come in handy. LOL

@scurry Photo ID is important, especially if it is from the FSM with his noodly tendrils.

@Palindromeman It's not so official that it involves a photo... But it's still Laminated... That counts for something, right?

@scurry If the FSM says so it shall be, then It Shall Be. And there will be pasta (damn it, carbs, I hate you).

@Palindromeman Let There Be Carbs!
Ha ha.

@scurry Even tho shipping is free, seems a bit pricey. I'd spring for it if I thought some of the profits went to FFRF or something, & tho it would be neat to have,...

@scurry Damn you carbs! You threaten my girlish figure!

It's kind of like celebrating being trapped in a cage of passive-aggressive abuse and emotional turmoil, but sounds fun.

ROFL!! That took a turn.
To be clear - they are not currently married, but are in a happy, long-term relationship.
They are simply two consenting adults sharing their life and enjoying each other's company.
Nothing nefarious about it. LOL

@scurry Something sounds amiss.

FSM? No clue what's that?

Flying Spaghetti Monster 🙂

Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster,
[venganza.org]

I believe it stands for Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Pastaferrians, as they referred to, also venerate pirates. So let's celebrate National Talk Like A Pirate Day:

You can get a legal ordination online via the Universal Life Church, free of charge. Or if you want to inject some humor, the FSM thing might be okay to. Personally, I wouldn't want to create any offense to anyone who might take it that way. It's okay to offend sometimes, but not at what should be a celebration, I think.

Deb57 Level 8 Apr 18, 2018

I'll look into the Universal Life Church - thank you...
But I'm not sure who we would offend. The only people they would invite would be people they know, and the people they know, know who they are and what they're about. I don't think there would be any cause for being offended.
The ceremony would be about joy, love, commitment and pasta... maybe some pirates if folks want to dress up. Heck, I'm pretty sure we wouldn't turn away someone dressed up in Wizard or Starfleet garb (thinking of a few friends in particular)
I don't see how that would offend anyone.

The church of the FSM really is just as valid as any organized religion. Honoring a longtime relationship that way should be very helpful.

6

Being a ordained as a Dudist Priest I think it's a great idea. I'm also thinking of becoming a secular celebrant.

Yes ! Have it in a whorehouse and make sure there is enough beer and pasta.

Absolutely! Well, not sure about the whorehouse... ...
But Pasta, Pirates and Beer for sure!

@scurry But it is a intergrel part of FSM, not so ?

I dunno man, I had a 20th anniversary party at a sushi place, no clerics were present, no vows renewed, none of that shit. I got up in front of a microphone with 50 people attending and said how much I loved my wife despite how much she drives me crazy and she did the same for me.

That's awesome!! <3 Sushi.

These folks aren't married, and nothing has been 'set in stone' as to the specifics of the gathering, and as a group, we've all had FSM themed events...
This just seemed the logical next.
Plus there is a mutual love for Pasta

I recommend getting ordained in The Church of the Latter Day Dude.
[dudeism.com]

Why one over the other?
Are you trying to convert me? 😉

@scurry I was not aware there as an actual ordination to FSM and there is to Dudeism.

@jlynn37 In deed there is...

Church of Fantasy Sado-Masochism?

not in this case - but you're free to follow whatever you want...
