From the 1840s through the early 1900s, South Carolina was the armpit center of southern violent racism, attacks on democracy, and outright insurrectionist white supremacy. Then, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida competed for the dumpster depth title through until recent years.

Now, facing a minority majority in their states, it seems that Georgia and Texas are the top competitors for that dubious title. Why? Simply because the southern WASP power structures in those two states are scared shitless by what that can mean for their pernicious control. And, between Georgia and Texas, it appears that Texas is winning the race to the bottom

This is not to say that Texas has ever smelled like arose in this regard. The fact is that southern WASPs moved into Texas in the first place because Mexico gave them lots of free land, and allowed them to bring slavery with them. The only reason that these Texas WASPs rebelled against Mexico was that Mexico subsequently abolished slavery. There was no rush of patriotism toward the U.S. then. And, I would say that the last statement applies to Texas today. Remember that Texas was a member state of the Confederacy and supplied many of the top Confederate military leaders.

I am not saying this as a presumptuous outsider. I Was born in Georgia, and raised in that same culture in north Florida.

I've lived in Georgia my entire life and it has slowly been shifting closer to being a blue state. I hope this trend continues and Georgia can shift toward being a better place for all minorities and everyone. But Georgia has a long way to go still and it will be decades before the ingrained racism of past generations dies out.

Honestly, I never had any desire to live in the South. Then I lived there courtesy of the USArmy, and I discovered all my misgivings about the South had been proved true. Not that many of the other states are better, the racism just seems to be deeper and more firmly rooted in the south.

It's definitely more open. However there is something to that southern hospitality stuff.
