I had a great conversation with a Brit last night who was unaware of how religious the US was. I had to explain the Bible Belt to him and advise him to keep his secularism to himself if he doesn't want odd stares. He was in shock. Maybe I should move to Europe...

Yea...I've always heard that even the religious in Europe treat it as a person thing and don't inflict their beliefs on others.

South Africa is also an interesting place to explore.

Wow. Really? The US remains to me (as an Australian) a strange experiment. It's about breath taking innovations (thanks Al Gore for the internet), advances in science. Brilliant literature, artwork and music. A shocking addiction to guns. And a more shocking addiction to religion. From the outside looking in, it just doesn't feel right.

Am I missing something, America?

@pink123 Then copy that.

No, the capitalistic society mantra of, God, guns and guts, is alive and well unfortunately. The USA is a bastion of inequality from its inception, "all men are created equal", as they went to their plantations and had slaves cater to them. Then the , 'War of Northern Aggression', (as it's taught by some southern states) , killed many an American on both sides. Then slaves were considered 3/5 of a person in the census. I could go on and on.

Oddly enough, our religiosity is a Puritanical carryover. It is one of the messed up aspects of life that is traced back to English beginnings.

Do come over. I live in bible belt Scotland, but it isn't what is like in the USA.
