I would agree, except that I have observed some on here who have been incredibly rude and sexist, and I was forced to block those individuals. I came to this app looking for some light hearted chat, and some convos have been anything but that though.

Did that guy whom posted about religion bashing, leave? I have not seen him post anymore.

The only thing I’ve seen is religious peoples perception being fucked up when it comes to speaking out against religion. They somehow feel they are being mocked. When in fact, it is their religion that is being mocked, not them. They sometimes have difficulty separating the two. That’s the only issue that I see.

Just google "war on christmas". Now that's religious persecution.

I've seen the bashing, and I've seen the anti-bashing.

I've seen the religion-has-its-merits, and I've seen the anti-religion-has-its-merits.

I've seen it all. Open forum like this, you're going to get it all. It's a good thing.

The takeaway from this post, for me, is non-believers being (potentially? some day? incrementally? stealthily?) stripped of their rights. That chills the hell out of me--no pun intended. We definitely need resources like this to connect, share resources, support one another, organize, etc.

Religion has been accustomed to unearned deference and respect in the marketplace of ideas, enforced by formal and informal blasphemy laws and taboos, until very recently. Meaningful critique of religion, of any kind, was basically unthinkable except arguably for a few of the elites, until the past few generations.

As a former devout evangelical I definitely understand from an insider's perspective how uncomfortable it makes them to encounter people who are not only unimpressed by the things that capture their imagination and devotion, but openly contemptuous of those things; and also, how uncomfortable it is to have your carefully cultivated personal self-image as virtuous and good violated. But guess what, they're just going to have to suck it up. I am personally fed up with the vast harms their ideology has wrought, particularly in the US. I have no desire to coddle them.

Even many areligious or atheist persons are so acculturated to the special pleading of religion that we somehow see it as elevated above things like flat earth conspiracy theories when in fact it's exactly the same thing: affording belief to unsubstantiated assertions based on various forms of argument from authority or incredulity, and various gaslighting ad hominems. These well-meaning folks bid us to go easy on these kindly and well-meaning believers.

Well actually we ARE going easy on them. We allow them to believe whatever they want, run their private clubs tax-free, and spread their hateful ideology far and wide. There hasn't been a Presidential candidate yet who dared to be openly unbelieving if they wanted to get elected. And yet these persecution whores insist they are disadvantaged and put-upon, misunderstood and downtrodden.

As my mother used to say, "nuts to that noise".

I totally agree that we are here to express our opinions and I also thought that's what this site was for. However, there are always people who don't like your posts, nor your replies to certain posts. No matter what a person does or says, someone is ALWAYS offended because it's their job to be offended!

A interesting question. Is saying religion is cobblers religion bashing? Who cares lol It's all rubbish, I can't say otherwise, if that's construed as bashing then so be it but seriously (sort of) it's just a different opinion.

I see lots of religion-bashing. I don't see as much in the way of people-bashing, but I still see it. What I don't see very much of at all is 1x1 bashing. Arguments seem pretty rare here. I do love a good spirited debate as much as the next guy, so sometimes it's a litte disappointing, but the peace is nice too.

There's a definite double standard. Too often, speaking the truth about religion and it's pernicious effects is enough to be called 'religion bashing'. Christopher Hitchens then, was a Murderer's Row to put the '27 Yankees to shame.
