In this day and age... I can't imagine, though, that moderate Muslims, like British Muslims, support this kind of medieval punishment.
The article contains a disturbing video.
Religious fundamentalists of all religious traditions suffer from toxic and lethal personal insecurity.
So-called “moderate” Muslims in Britain, a majority of the, support the criminalization of homosexuality and jailing of apostates, as in people who insult their pedophile prophet Muhammad, according to a Pew poll
Doesn't make them much different from so-called "moderate" Christians in America, does it.
@Paul4747 actually, it does. Christianity went through the meat grinder of the Enlightenment, scientific Revolution, etc. Christians aren’t blowing up concert venues, forcing women to wear burqas, shooting up a magazine office for mocking Muhammad. It is not zero sum game here, dude. Moral relativism is idiotic
@Heavykevy1985 Not sure I agree. We have gay Muslims in Britain, and there is an organisaion supporting them. Their spokesperson, who is also a gay Muslim, often appears on TV and elsewhere to speak on their behalf. Don't know what it is like in America, but here in Britain, they don't have to hide because they are gay Muslims.
@Heavykevy1985 Islam is where the scientific revolution and Enlightenment started. All those principles that Europe had to rediscover during the Renaissance came from the Middle East. Give credit where credit's due.
Christians may not be blowing up concert venues, the jury is very much out on what they would do if they thought they could get away with it (you know, if they didn't fear prison). Likewise enforcing dress and behavior codes, stoning people who diss their God, burning down abortion clinics (and you know it's happened). The only thing keeping American fundamentalists in check is that we don't live in a theocracy, and they're trying to bring it about.
All fundamentalists are the same, East or West. Moral superiority is what's idiotic. "Dude".
@Paul4747 When do they lash people? Get serious!
@Paul4747 no it did not. If that was the case, how come the Middle East is a backwater compared to the West. Also, the Islamic scholar merely borrowed all the knowledge from the ancient Greeks. “Jury still is out….” Speculation on your part, no evidence. Also, the handful of abortion clinics bombed do not hold a candle to 9/11, San Bernardino, Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, etc.
, @Ryo1 whether you agree with me or not is irrelevant. Pew poll is on my side. Islam is the most retrograde, stupid, and barbaric ideology and is incompatible with Western Values. Over 50% of Muslims, mainstream opinion, think that homosexuality should be a crime in Britain. Otherwise, you are just being obtuse.
"Islam is where the scientific revolution and Enlightenment started. All those principles that Europe had to rediscover during the Renaissance came from the Middle East. Give credit where credit's due."
The University of Al-Qarawiyyin in Fez, Morocco is the oldest, amazingly still operating and degree awarding University in the world. It was founded in the years of 859 by Fathima Al-Fihri (a Muslim woman).
@Heavykevy1985 Pew poll is your ultimate Bible . Got it.
@Ryo1 Pew is a centrist polling firm, not a Bible but thanks for playing.
@Ryo1 No. Again, if Islam helped sparked the Renaissance in Europe, etc. then how come the Middle East is such a backwater on the world stage and how come any culture it comes in contact with, it cannot assimilate unless everyone to Islam?
If you are asking ... is this horrible - yes it it but please find time to see the horrible around us. We have to fix our house before laughing at others'.
There is horror everywhere, in every society in the world and it will continue as long as ignorant and stupid people are born, raised and launched by stupid and ignorant parents. All does not come from religion but the majority does. The most horrible thing we do in the US is send our parents to retirement homes and hospices. In my mind, there is nothing more horrible.
We have to drop this that something in a different society across the seven seas is horrible. We always think something, somebody outside our home, outside our family, outside our culture, outside of us is horrible, it is never us and it is never what we do. The American society has plenty of problems. We all can learn from each other. There is a lot to learn from other societies in medicine, family values etc. We have shiny buildings and cars but our individualistic society does not have a kind soul. I grew up overseas and never ever saw anyone holding a gun in hand, never heard of anyone shooting anyone, let alone doing a mass shooting in a school, never heard of this gun mania, never saw a live gun and any drugs (like heroine, LSD etc.) in front of me yet, let alone in my hand in 30 years that I was there.
We would never believe and accept if the Taliban told us they will not have random, senseless robbery, stabbing, high school mass gun shooting, deaths in spamedes to Black Monday sales at stores, groping, teasing of women in streets, child pornography in the name of freedom which are common and plenty to be found in every city and state in the US.
We villianized China since 1960s but guess which country lifted the most people ever out of poverty in the shortest period of time and which country is very close to being the superpower of tomorrow? It is not the UK or the USA. It is the yellow man of Asia who we laughed at and ridiculed for 50 years.
China is a paper tiger. They did not do it through communism. By metric do you judge being lifted out of poverty?
International metrics, by UN, by World Bank, not me
@St-Sinner what exactly are international metrics? Improvement in quality of life? Dispensable income? You still did not gave an answer
Where did it say anything about moderate Muslims, or British Muslims supporting this? Just because someone says they are moderate doesn't mean that they are. What one person thinks of being moderate is not the same as someone els does.
Bloody BARBARIC, Brutal, Savage, Sickening and totally unacceptable in any Modern Human Society.
I wonder how many times those wielding the sticks have been having a dirty little dalliance out of Islamic Wedlock and gotten away with?
What a pity someone couldn't catch them at it and ensure that they suffered the hundred lashes in PUBLIC as well.
They are only following their interpretation of Koranic law. If christians followed their interpretation of biblical law it would be pretty much the same.
Knowing our most devout and pious Chrustians, IF that were to be so then I'd estimate that we'd see 50% of them stoning the other 50% almost every day of the week.
